Harper McLeod move to make Craig Whyte bankrupt

Recommended Posts

The lawyers of former Rangers owner Craig Whyte have moved to have him declared bankrupt.

Harper Macleod has raised the sequestration order against Mr Whyte at Inverness Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old had used the law firm to represent him in his separation proceedings from his wife Kim as well as in representations for his company Tixway UK, which was placed into administration earlier this year.

Mr Whyte purchased an 85% stake in Rangers from Sir David Murray last May for £1 before using a £26.7m Ibrox season ticket deal with Ticketus to effectively fund his takeover.

During his reign, the club ran up debts of up to £134m, including a potential £94.4m tax bill, which led to Rangers calling in administrators in February.

Inverness Sheriff Court confirmed the case calling was a move by the legal firm to have Mr Whyte declared bankrupt, while the Crown Office has ordered Strathclyde Police to investigate possible criminal wrongdoing surrounding his Rangers buyout.

London firm Ticketus is also launching legal action against Mr Whyte after he gave the company personal guarantees over the deal he struck with them.

His UK-based assets include his Grantown-on-Spey home Castle Grant and his Bentley car, which he successfully prevented from being sold at auction to pay his estranged wife under their separation proceedings.

Harper Macleod withdrew the petition shortly afterwards for some reason. It seems they lodged the petition with the court only to withdraw it hours later, requesting that the petition be dismissed and they be awarded over £600 for expenses. Very strange indeed.

shot accross someones bows?

There's a bunch of possibilities. They might have lodged the petition only to get an immediate phone call from BDO, D&P, Ticketus or another interested party telling them to withdraw it. It's really difficult to say.

Not that strange he'll have settled (or agreed to settle) the original fees and the £600 will be H&M's expenses in raising his action that's just his normal modus operandi.

He was also listed at Glasgow Sheriff Court today the solicitors who handled his libel action (no sniggering !!) want payment too.

Right enough! They'll have done it to force him into settling or agreeing to settle his bill? If that's what happened then it's another case of "nothing to see here, move along".

They seem to be involved in a lot in all things connected to Rangers

Did they not represent Whyte in his divorce proceedings?

Which,if they did, puts them in a conflict of interest situation,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no?
