Rangers statement on the stripping of titles

Recommended Posts

With respect to the statement, clearly it's a very strong one and certainly welcome in my opinion.

One would hope the content of it suggests the club are very confident of their legal position but I'm sure the SPL will be as well. One thing is for sure, this will rumble on for a while yet and if the SPL still exists in 3 years time, chances are we won't be invited to join it should we win Division One.

A lot of water will run down the Clyde before we get close to the SPL (if it is still there in its current form). While I welcome the club's statement as such, the way the "problem" is being dealt with surprises somewhat. It like - for lack of better comparisson - like the Pope wants to excommunicate and strip someone of titles or theological degrees who has just joined the Anglican Church. While this someone says "bugger off Benedict, you do not hold any jursidiction over me any longer!", the world and the organisations will still question his previous e.g. education, if they (!) are still working with/for the Pope.

As in: should the SPL decide to e.g. strip us of titles, how would Green's statement help us? We would fight on a legal basis, as he said. The "business" approach is very handy, but will it stop any stripping if the SPL and the SFA agree to it? Obviously, by firing a broadside at the SPL et al, we make our intentions pretty clear (though any SPL verdict can by current knowledge only be appealed at the SFA, right?) and if we fight them in court, we may well ruin the SPL's accounts even faster ...

What it does so is draw high level attention at the dealings of the SPL and possible SFA. They won't like that either.
