WCQ - Scotland v Serbia

Recommended Posts

Listening to a great song on radio right now ha!....'Levein on a Midnight Train To Georgia'..is this an omen?

Maybe it means someone is going to kidnap Levein and fuck him on a Eurostar train to Georgia in the morning? That would be minted!

+1 more for the least motivated ever.

Think its a combination of not believing we can do it. Plus the usual carry on continuing with the abuse Black got and the fact that many in a position to condemn tried to twist it.

Might be different when the game starts but right now I'm just thinking cant wait to watch some piss poor div 3 football. Shows how much I care.

THE national boss is brimming with confidence as he prepares his team for this afternoonâ??s Group A curtain-raiser against Serbia.

CRAIG LEVEIN last night insisted Scotland are capable of winning all 10 group games on the road to Rio.

As he prepares his team for this afternoonâ??s Group A curtain-raiser against Serbia, the national boss is brimming with confidence.

And he believes his players are good enough to achieve the perfect 10 that would take the Scots to the World Cup in 2014.

Levein did not predict Scotland WILL collect 30 points from the Serbs, Croatia, Belgium, Macedonia and Wales â?? but is adamant the squad heâ??s moulded over the past two years has that ability.

He said: â??If youâ??d asked me two years ago if the group we had then could win every game in our campaign Iâ??d have hesitated and been a little unsure.

â??But I think we have a squad now capable of that. Whether we do or not we have to wait and see.

â??But we are capable, definitely. Can we do it is the question.

â??There are so many things that can happen in a match and dictate the game outside what we do. We saw that in the last campaign.

â??But we are ready to go, everybody is properly prepared. The lads are hugely excited, Iâ??m hugely excited and I just canâ??t wait to get going.â?

Leveinâ??s biggest problem in the run-up to the visit of the Serbs has been filling the left-back slot after a succession of players who can operate in that position withdrew through injury.

Huddersfield Townâ??s Paul Dixon looks certain to get the berth in a back four that will be protected by Gary Caldwell, who will captain the side and earn his 50th cap in the defensive midfield role he played so well against Australia last month.

Levein wonâ??t deviate from his lone striker policy â?? Kenny Miller will get the nod â?? but he insisted the players he has in the system are capable of creating and taking chances.

The manager added: â??People get hung up on this â?? but itâ??s not about playing two strikers equals you get more goals.

â??Thatâ??s naive in the extreme. Itâ??s about the tempo of the game and the technical ability of your players.

â??If we play two strikers, Iâ??m leaving out a hugely important player.

â??What irritates me more than anything else are those people who have played the game and are saying, â??just stick two strikers up frontâ??.

â??It doesnâ??t work that way. Itâ??s not about how many strikers youâ??ve got â?? itâ??s about how many strikers get into goalscoring positions.

â??Itâ??s about how many people in your team can create, how the balance works and then, most importantly, itâ??s about the tempo and the manner in which you play.

â??Weâ??ve got players in the team who score goals.

â??The most important thing I can say is that nobody wants to qualify more than me.

â??Iâ??m desperate to qualify. I have done this job for a lot of years, Iâ??ve looked at the players weâ??ve got and at the defence weâ??ve got and Iâ??ve decided this is the best way for us to qualify.â?

He always seems to cram as many attacking midfielders into his team as possible and it doesn't really work. We have a centre half in the holding role then ahead of him Snodgrass, Morrison, Adam and Naismith - all attacking players. There isn't any balance.

At the heart of all top teams are a couple of top midfielders in the middle of the park. This is always lacking with Scotland.

Yip, and our holding midfielder is a defender.

If this team attacks the Serbs will hit on the break. Ivanovic does that well with Chelsea, fancy a flutter on him for the first goal.

he can't even pick his best striker in Stephen Fletcher.surely for the sake of qualification he has to bite the bullet and pick him.

Will he go with no strikers again away to Belgium,Croatia and Serbia?

TBH he didnt pick his 2nd best striker either. Jordan Rhodes has been doing pretty well down south and probably better than Miller in Canada. Whilst Im a big fan of Miller, Rhodes should probably have got the nod. In saying that Id have played them both in a 4-4-2.
