Dundee U fined by UEFA

Recommended Posts

Dundee United have been fined 17,000 (£13,482) by UEFA following crowd trouble at their Europa League match with Dinamo Moscow.

The SPL side were hit with the punishment following "crowd disturbances and a pitch invasion" during the third qualifying round tie at Tannadice on August 2.

UEFA confirmed the outcome of a disciplinary case against the club on Friday morning. United have three days to lodge any appeal.

It has not yet been confirmed by the governing body whether any punishment will be levied against Dinamo Moscow.

Dundee United were found guilty of breaching both Article Six and 11 of UEFA's Disciplinary Regulations.

Article 6 of the Disciplinary Regulations states: "Member associations and clubs are responsible for the conduct of their players, officials, members, supporters and any other persons exercising a function at a match on behalf of the member association or club.

"The host associations or clubs are responsible for order and security both inside and around the stadium before, during and after the match. They are liable for incidents of any kind, and may be rendered subject to disciplinary measures and directives."

Article 11 holds clubs responsible for the conduct of their supporters both in and around the stadium and covers a range of incidents including the throwing of objects and attempting to invade the pitch.

At the time of the incident, Dundee United vowed to ban anyone they could identify as having been responsible for the trouble.

A statement read: "Dundee United is carrying out an internal enquiry into the events during Thursday night's Europa League Tie v Dynamo Moscow. Any individual found to have been involved in unacceptable conduct and damaging the club's proud reputation will face a stadium ban.

"The club continue to foster the UEFA spirit incorporated within the RESPECT campaign and actively encouraged the promotion of these values in our strategy for Thursday's match and we are extremely disappointed that the actions of one or two individuals have been seen to damage what was yet another special European night at Tannadice."
