The 22 players over the age of 21 rule

Recommended Posts

I don't understand this bollocks, but Charles Green was just saying on the radio that 5 of our quota of 22 players over the age of 21 are being filled by players who refused to TUPE, so we can actually only have 17 players over 21.

It must be some sort of technical thing to do with the fact that there's still outstanding disputes with some of the players who left.

Taken from the SFL Constitution and Rules

115. REGISTRATION AND TRANSFERS - BONA FIDE PLAYERS

A bona fide player (amateur or professional) of a club is one who has signed the necessary Registration Documents (any signature to be witnessed by one person) and has been registered and approved by the League before playing.

115.1 It shall be the responsibility of each member club playing in any match under the auspices of the League to ensure that its players are eligible to play in any such match.

115.2 A club shall be permitted to register, at any one time, up to a maximum of 22 players, who have reached the age of 21 years on 1st January of the appropriate year. The maximum number of 22 players includes players registered by means of a temporary transfer. Additional players may be registered by a club, however such players must be under 21 years of age on 1st January of the appropriate year.

I'm not exactly sure who the 5 players are. I would guess that we're still disputing Naismith, Lafferty, McGregor and Whittaker, but there must be a fifth.

Basically the five players are still registered as our players which reduces our over 21 quota to 17 players.

ah the sfa. why am I not surprised.

In this case it's not the SFA's fault. They haven't transferred the registrations because Charles Green & Co are disputing the players refusing to TUPE and signing for new clubs without any agreements being reached on transfer fees or compensation to Rangers.
