The weekend also saw the second round of matches of the new SWPL season, with the Ladies in action away to Stirling University. The suffered a 5-3 defeat though, which leaves them bottom of the table with no points. It is early doors yet, of course.

Our youngsters, now called the "Rangers Development Team" play in the SWFL Division 1 - South and sits in 4th place after three match days, having won 2 and lost 1 game.

The Ladies snatched their first league win of the current season when Claire Adams netted a 94th minute winner against Aberdeen at New Tinto Park

Amy McDonald to be Rangers Ladies' new head coach​

 

Amy McDonald has been appointed the new head coach of Rangers Ladies.

 

But it's not Amy MacDonald, the Light Blues supporting singer-songwriter. It is the former Scotland international.

 

McDonald, 31, was head of youth with reigning Scottish champions Glasgow City and will take charge against Hamilton Academical on Sunday.

 

Scottish singer MacDonald, 29, released her fourth album earlier this year and has sung the national anthem before Scotland matches.

 

Rangers, who were runners-up in 2014 and have been managed by former Accies coach Kevin Murphy, sit fifth in the Scottish Women's Premier League.

 

And new head coach McDonald told Rangers' website: "One of the huge draws coming into the club is that they have some fantastic youth players, not just at the first team at the moment but all the way throughout the academy.

 

"I think if we can finish top five then that would be an achievement this season, but it is really just a building block for next season and figuring out how far we can push."

 

McDonald hopes to persuade more of the large fan base who follow the Glasgow club's male team to watch their female counterparts.

 

"I think a lot of people do a comparison of both men and women's football, but women's football is entirely different," she added.

 

"Our game is never going to have the same physicality; it is never going to be the same as the men's side of the game.

 

"It is great to get people along to the games, particularly now the national team have qualified for the European Championships and there is a real buzz about the women's game in this country."

THE CLUB is delighted to announce Amy McDonald as the new Rangers LFC Head Coach.

 

Amy joins the club from Glasgow City where she worked as Head of Youth Development for five years at the Champions League competitors.

Hamilton Academical 0-4 Rangers

 

AMY McDonald started her reign as Rangers manager with an impressive 4-0 victory over Hamilton Academical at the Superseal Stadium.

 

First half goals from Rachael O’Neil and Hannah Robertson gave Rangers the lead going into the break. Chelsie Watson added a third before Claire Adams rounded off the scoring in the closing minutes of the game.

i watched Reading play Man City in a woman's match yesterday and two of the Man. City goals were from a long throw-in. The Lassie could throw it further than the middle of the goal. I have seen guy's do that but I never expected it from a woman.

Ladies: Rangers 4-1 Aberdeen

RANGERS put four goals past Aberdeen as they got back to winning ways in the league. Lisa Swanson opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Hayley Sinclair and Hannah Robertson added to the lead. Aberdeen got a goal back before half-time but Sinclair got her second late on to secure the three points for the Blue Belles.
