Rangers draw Falkirk (again)

Recommended Posts

RANGERS could land an SPL club when the second round draw of the Scottish Communities League Cup takes place on Thursday.

The Light Blues safely made their way forward in the competition with their win over East Fife tonight.

Now they will be bottom seeds once again when they go into the second round draw which includes the 15 winners from the first round plus the non-European SPL sides.

So Rangers could face one of the following: Kilmarnock, St. Mirren, Aberdeen, Inverness., Hibs, Dunfermline and Ross County.

A tie against an SPL club would undoubtedly have some added spice given that all of them â?? bar Kilmarnock â?? voted to kick Rangers out of the top flight.

The other sides through to the second round are: Morton, Arbroath, Ayr United, Dumbarton, Falkirk, Partick. Hamilton, Montrose, Queen of the South, Queenâ??s Park, Raith Rovers, Stenhousemuir and Livingston.

The second round draw is at 1pm on Thursday, August 9 with the ties due on August 28 or 29.

This will be very interesting indeed.

An away tie to an SPL side should see a 100% backed boycott from us.

A home tie is different but as the money is split 50/50 there will be a number of fans more interested in the 50% that goes to the opposition than the 50% the club retains (and needs). That would be a hard choice for many fans, myself included.

Here's hoping we can avoid an SPL side and continue to share with our SFL colleagues. East Fife must be delighted with getting a cheque for around £180-£200K. That is more in one night than that club could bring in through gate receipts in a year.
