Arabs' Abdication on Tannadice Troubles?

Recommended Posts

I have read through the largely sympathetic reporting of the violence that erupted at Tannadice last evening. Dundee United fans are portrayed as, "stunned", "innocent", and "shocked". Cuddly rent-a-quote, Lorraine Kelly pointed the finger directly at the Russian fans and screamed 'witch'. She was correct in stating they climbed up and over, but omitted the reason.

Reading the comments section of a number of daily newspapers, a number of non-Arabs in hospitality tell a different story. Top tier Arabs casually pelting Russians below with food and drink debris. Russians climbing up and over at the other end of the stand to attach a flag, find themselves also being pelted by Dundee pehs. Remonstrations lead to several corporate Arabs rushing the Russians and the punches are swapped.

Now, this is the third time in three years where trouble has erupted in a Euro match at Tannadice. Further, it's a three in three for pitch invasions too. Last season, UEFA fined United £5,000.

We can expect the usual cotterie of United celebs to join in with Lorraine to mitigate the images of fellow Arabs acting with impunity. Ricky Ross, Gary Robertson, Jim Spence, ........ et al will play the victim card. Stephen Thompson will step atop the moral high ground and display those qualities so demanded of Rangers supporters ie humility, remorse, and contrition.

Don't hold your breath.

If we draw Dundee United in either cup, we should refuse tickets because it's obvious the opposition fans safety cannot be guaranteed.

I wonder what the SPL board are saying about this.

Stephen Thompson should know as he seems to be a key member of it.

Ah, but I'm sure he was shocked on Tuesday morning to find out he was NOT a member of the SPL Steering Committee on Media Rights. In fact, he was shocked to find out there was such a committee.

It doesn't matter what DU fans have to say about it, there should have been a EUFA obsever at the game, so we can await his report and just have to accept what he/she has to say about it.

But if anything near what's happened is true, I'd expect a fine, and maybe a home fan ban at their next game.

Next year, obviously!
