Beattie blames Green for move falling through and says he wasn't holding out for more money.

CRAIG BEATTIE last night told of his disappointment after Charles Green pulled the plug on his proposed move to Rangers.

The ex-Hearts and Celtic striker had been ready to pledge his future to the stricken Ibrox club in a bid to help fire Ally McCoist’s side up through the divisions.

But after eight weeks of stalled talks and even a trial period at Murray Park, a frustrated Beattie was eventually told on Wednesday that chief executive Green would not be making him an offer.

The 28-year-old spoke exclusively to Record Sport yesterday to rubbish claims made elsewhere that his cash demands were the reason the deal fell through.

And Beattie insisted it was Green’s decision to block the move – even though McCoist wanted to sign him. He said: “I’m disappointed things didn’t work out.

“The situation dragged on and I don’t want to go into too much detail but it’s important I clear one or two issues up.

“There seems to be a perception the deal fell through because I was holding out for more money – and that could not be further from the truth.

“I was prepared to drop down the divisions not to make a fast buck but because I wanted to be a part of

something big.

“I wanted to play my part in getting Rangers back to the top of the Scottish game.

“I felt I could score the goals to get Rangers back up the leagues and was prepared to accept all the criticism that would have come my way because of my time at Celtic.

“I spoke to Ally and was under the impression he really wanted me on board and that excited me.

“But in the end, it became obvious he and Green were not on the same wavelength. I don’t want to say any more than that.”

Record Sport understands that despite McCoist’s last ditch attempts to keep the deal alive on Tuesday morning Green killed it stone dead just hours later when he ditched Beattie by text in a message sent to the player’s agent Mel Stein.

At the same time Green was tying up the signings of two other strikers – Francisco Sandaza and Kevin Kyle.

Beattie, who is now weighing up other offers, including a lucrative contract with English outfit Notts County, added: “I want the Rangers fans to know this was not a financial thing and I was prepared to roll up my sleeves and do a big job.”

From what I gather Beattie was Allys first choice and wanted him and Sandaza to spearhead the attack for next couple of seasons.

Ally phoned Craig on the Tuesday morning saying he wanted deal done quickly to introduce him to fans, 3 hours later Charles Green told them deal was dead.

Maybe Ally has had a change of heart now and see's Kyle as a better fit beside Sandaza who knows

And soon the rumour will gather pace that Green did not want a former Celtic player at "his" club and that he will install a strict regime of not buying ex-Celtic players, Roman Catholics, Irish republican people and the like ... mark my words! :popeyjoe:

(Now, where's the cynical smiley again? Ach well, this one will do :fish: )

Dorin Goian last night confirmed he plans to see out his contract at Ibrox.

The Romanian defender has two years left on his current deal but was expected to leave following Gers’ demotion to the Third Division.

But Goian, 31, said: “Rangers is more than a football club.

“I just feel good here and so do my family. Things are working out well here. I have two years of my contract left. If things go well, I will stay here.”
