The Real Radio Football Phone-In will not be returning to Real Radio

Recommended Posts

The Real Radio Football Phone-In will not be returning to Real Radio and we understand that this news wonâ??t be welcomed by some listeners, but we would like to explain the reasons for the changes we are making. When the show started more than a decade ago it was among only a handful of debate shows available to fans. Now this type of content is widely available whenever and wherever people want it on many different platforms, such as internet forums, fan sites, specialist tv and radio stations and social media. This has no doubt contributed to the gradual decline in audience to The Real Radio Football Phone-In.

In its place we will be introducing music led programming, consistent with the rest of the dayâ??s output and of appeal to the widest audience.

We would like to thank our sports presenters for their passion for the show and commitment to the station over the years and wish them the very best for the future.

We do hope you continue to enjoy listening to Real Radio and understand the reasons for these necessary changes. If you would like to make a comment please use this page to send us your feedback.

I listened to it a couple of times and I thought it a bit argy bargy, but then again, I only listened to it because I was sick of the only thing we're left which is BBC Radio Scotland.

Jim Spence has now been promoted to a main presenter of the midweek shows and he shows his dislike for Rangers regulary, mainly I'd say because he felt the need once to declare that he was a catholic and didn't need to apoligize for that fact.

Well what a surprise, do you think we didn't guess Shamus, doh!

Still, that's were I've learned to appreciate Jim Traynor more as he was the only voice standing up for Rangers, against all the others.

They say he's retiring, forced out more like, but he's still on and we'll see if he's on more next season, or not.

Translation: now Rangers are in Div3, our advertising has taken yet another hit since listener interest will decline. So, here's another generic music show hosted by a dude with that radio accent you never hear anywhere outside a studio/DJ's box at a party.

I'm sure the business case for its continuation would need to be evaluated but I would argue that a quality product would have survived. With a bit of ingenuity, real radio could have bid for the rights to commentary for games, done SFL phone ins, etc. this would have maintained interest, arguably could draw in new listeners, etc.

The simple fact is that it was a laughably poor show, with little insight to keep regular listeners interested. The same inane banter only goes so far.
