Rangers Fan's View: Why I donâ??t like other Scottish Clubs

Great article written by Shorerdbear:

The recently formed Rangers standard has produced some excellent, thought provoking articles. The website has lived up to its billing and will no doubt continue to provide Rangers fans with fantastic reading.

The admin team has sourced writers from various backgrounds and professions. Most notably of late, Harry Reid, former editor for The Glasgow Herald, wrote a piece on his dislike of Rangers. The sentiment of Harryâ??s article will no doubt be shared by most fans in Scotland whose team are not playing in light blue.

Harry focused his dislike on recent years and glowingly praised Rangers sides of the 60s and 70s. If Iâ??m being honest, one fan or thousands of fans disliking Rangers will never concern me â?? itâ??s not a popularity contest â?? itâ??s a competitive sport where results mean everything.

I thought Iâ??d take on the view of the ordinary fan instead of the eloquent piece from Alasdair McKillop in The Rangers Standard:

My dislike of our rivals stems from their lack of ambition and obsessive, envious streak. Recent events in Scottish Football have vindicated my feelings. The blood lust over Rangersâ?? predicament, abdicating responsibilities and the ensuing panic over financial forecasts do lend weight to this.

Go back to the time when phrases such as sporting integrity and fan forum accountancy degrees were non-existent and you will find SPL clubs banking on the large travelling away support Rangers provide. That support so many loves to hate helps clubs run their operations. Factor in the corporate side and commercial opportunities Rangers bring in and any business would be acting irresponsibly in turning that away.

I have read many times that our rivals hate it when Rangers buys their best players. If it wasnâ??t Rangers purchasing those players then it would be another club like Celtic or an English club. Perhaps if SPL clubs matched the playersâ?? ambitions then retaining the services of a star player would never be an issue? Just a thought! Of course, the transfer fee goes to some use, too. If certain clubs cannot match playersâ?? ambitions then the fact of life is that they will be regarded as a selling club.

We are often regarded as arrogant and bully like. If celebrating success means arrogance then so be it; Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, AC Milan and many more will be in the same bracket. I was under the impression that boasting about success was part of the game â?? banter â?? like smaller sides coming to Ibrox and chanting Celtic songs.

SPL clubs have always lacked ambition, especially their fans. Look at the recent vote by fans on whether Rangers FC should play in the SPL. It was pointed out by some chairmen that their clubs might go into administration if Rangers were not in the SPL. Fans actually voted for the possibility of insolvency rather than progress. Astonishing.

Behind this voting was the abdication of leadership. Club boards responsibility fall to their shareholders and its commercial viability. So not only is there no ambition, but we have no leadership. The credibility of Scotlandâ??s game has taken a battering.

Any sensible club would re-group, plan for the future and see if they can grab some spoils left by Rangers (the club will have to rebuild regardless of what division it was playing in) and ensure long term prosperity.

We also have other fans declaring us as bigots and thugs. I must imagine thuggish behaviour, sectarian chants and rivals fans celebrating the Ibrox Disaster from the same people who love to take the moral high ground.

We cannot deny that we have managed to discredit ourselves at times in Europe; however, we have cleaned up our act. Many others canâ??t say the same. My own opinion is that they focus on Rangers so much, they do not realise what they are actually saying themselves.

The main focus on us now is that weâ??re cheats. Reading comments on social media and in the press, we have committed heinous crimes against football. Rangers fans, players, managers, staff are all cheats. Scottish Football has failed to realise that Craig Whyte created this storm along with David Murray.

The Crown Prosecution will investigate Craig Whyteâ??s takeover, HMRC will go after those responsible for the mess Rangers finds itself in for withholding PAYE and NI Contributions and possibly the EBT scheme depending on the outcome. But Rangers FC are guilty. Only Scotland would you read such comments and view the blood lust on show.

I canâ??t name one director of another club, I would struggle to name every manager in the SPL, and I certainly canâ??t name a first 11 for any side other than my own. I bet you most other fans can name our directors (pre and post admin) and a first 11.

The trouble is indeed that we're in a small backwater of world football, where religion and jelousy rule, so much so that comments from other fans on phone-ins and such have us bang to rights, even though we've not been found guilty of what the accuse of of, cheating!

All the punishments, and they are punishments, punishments due to the consequeces of our behaviour. Going into admin, then liquidation. We don't dispute the well known punishments as the consequences of our actions, but other teams, please don't believe that we're due 'extra' punishment as the SFA/SPL see fit to invent. Especially for thing that we've not been found guilty of yet.
