The young son of former Rangers player Claudio Reyna has died after a battle with cancer.

 

Reyna’s son Jack was diagnosed with a pediatric brain tumour three years ago.

 

The death of the 13-year-old was confirmed on Thursday night by Rangers on their official Twitter account.

 

Manager Ally McCoist said: “We have just heard the sad news that Claudio Reyna's son Jack has lost his battle against cancer.

 

"On behalf of everyone at Rangers I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Claudio and his family at this difficult time.

 

"Losing a child at just 13 is a tragedy and puts football into perspective."

 

During his time at Rangers, ex-captain of the American national team Reyna made more than sixty appearances between 1999 and 2001.

 

When the Glasgow club won the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen in 2000, Reyna brought his son Jack onto the Hampden pitch to celebrate.

 

The 13-year-old was a keen footballer like his father and stayed with his family in Bedford in Westchester County, New York.
