Gers want embargo amnesty

Recommended Posts

RANGERS will offer a peace deal to the Scottish Football Association â?? providing they agree to lift their transfer embargo for the rest of the month.

The Light Blues have been at loggerheads with the governing body since their judicial panel imposed a year-long transfer ban because of the way previous owner Craig Whyte ran the club.

The Ibrox administrators then controversially went outside of football by taking their appeal to the Court of Session, who backed Rangers and referred the matter back to the SFAâ??s judicial panel at Hampden.

They now have to hand out a new punishment, but Rangersâ?? move to get the matter overturned infuriated Scottish football and FIFA, who threatened to intervene unless the Ibrox giants were pulled back into line.

New Rangers owner Charles Green, has already admitted the club made a mistake turning to the courts and he is keen to defuse the situation and for his club to move forward.

He hopes to do that later this week when he finds out if his club will be starting off again in the First or Third Divisions.

Green has already lost the majority of his first-team squad, who refused to transfer to his newco, although he is still fighting for compensation.

He knows that Rangers will need to strengthen whichever league they end up in.

That is why if he would accept a year-long transfer ban from August 1 if the SFA allow him to sign players for the rest of the month.

Rangers already have freed Hearts midfielder Ian Black lined up if they go into the First Division, although he will not drop to the bottom tier.

Craig Beattie, Ben Gordon and Derek Riordan are other names being considered.

Meanwhile, Ibrox boss Ally McCoist is set for talks with American duo Maurice Edu and Carlos Bocanegra later this week.

Bocanegra can still leave for free, although it is likely that any club would need to pay money to get Edu.

The embargo is illegal, as proven in court, and we should in no circumstances accept a transfer embargo over this club, whatever the fudge surrounding the dates are.

Our fans paid good money to back the club into court to win that case, and Green would be making a big mistake if he thinks we will be happy with his capitulation over this.
