Very funny, he thought.

When told It was a statue fo 66 people who died at the Ibrox disaster he said he didnt know that and deleted his tweet.

From his own blog : "Outside one corner of Ibrox a monument stands to the 66 who were crushed to death on a cold, foggy January night in 1971. Today an empty area, concrete bollards and a small street mark the area where Stairway 13 once stood and those supporters died in the crush."

It may be open season on the club we love, but fuck me draw the line.

Certainly think he has been conned here by a Celtic fan, he may have reported about the disaster but I doubt he actually knew what the memorial was. Still the fool should no better than to post this sort of disrespectful nonsense

The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about. Oscar Wilde. He was asking for internet gif's and photoshops so he could put them into a channel 4 news peice. I think he knew exactly what he was doing.

You guys see it a diffrent way? Fair enough.

A facet of the long-running Rangers story has been the creative use of the internet and IT to comment on the saga from all sides, from all kinds of fans. For some time I have been collecting such examples as they represent often highly-creative comment on the issues.

This morning I posted one such example which shows a statue of former Rangers player and director, John Greig, “walking away” from Ibrox. Mr Greig – along with other former Rangers directors was recently cited in a legal Tribunal ruling by the Scottish Football Association. Central to their ruling was that key directors – including Mr Greig – had not acted properly whilst the club was mismanaged.

This covers the time when Mr Greig was at the club, before he resigned. Therefore, I took this spoof video purely as a comment on John Greig “walking away” from Ibrox and nothing more.

However, it is true that this statue commemorates those who died in the Ibrox Park disaster. Some have interpreted this as disrespectful to their memory. I was aware of the significance of the statue, but did not interpret that this image was designed to make a cruel link between those that lost their lives and the recent Rangers story.

I immediately deleted the tweet and issued an unreserved apology – but Twitter is not always the best place for thorough explanation and apology –so I wanted to set out exactly what happened in my blog. I completely and unreservedly apologise for any offence caused.”

I am not set to 'be offended' when journalists say nasty things about us. Maybe I have an especially thick skin, but I don't think so; I just don't mind too much what people I don't know or care about think of me.

I have complained once over something to do with Rangers, and that was when GMP prevented me catching a nap after the UEFA Cup Final and insisted I drive into the next constabulary area, which I did with one eye shut since I was sleeping, to all intents and purposes. That definitely merited a complaint. The irony of the road signs saying 'Don't Drive Tired' has not been lost on me since. Anyway, point is, I don't get het up about stories in the media.

I didn't even get too het up about this one initially. Seemed like another twat without a clue about the culture here wading in and making a hash of things. Insensitive certainly and far from impartial but if C4 are happy, I can sleep at night. Learning that he did in fact know what the purpose of the statue was, despite initially claiming he didn't, made it a bit worse - what a creep, I was thinking.

But he apologised, after a fashion, which was good enough for me. The tweet from Lesley Riddoch, describing him sitting on a train reading understandably angry tweets from Bears calling him for everything and laughing takes things beyond the pale for me. Laughing? At this? At using a memorial to dead football fans to get a laugh??

Alex Thomson is not a nice person.
