Smith consortium withdrawing bid ??!

Recommended Posts

We all know that £6m was too low an offer to be accepted by Green's consortium, but I think they bid that amount knowing full well that we're not in any way guaranteed to still be in the SPL next season, that we might be losing some valuable player assets for nothing or peanuts and that we could also be losing some sponsorship deals. The newco route taken has devalued the club considerably and the owners are going to have to invest money and lose that money in order to get the club back to where it was. Walter, McColl and co will probably have hoped that Green's consortium were willing to walk for a small profit and allow people to take over who were willing to take a financial hit by making a loss in order to keep the club in a position of strength in terms of the playing squad.

green needs to now decide if a club with the kind of sanctions and cuts we are likely to face is going to bring bigger bids than 6 million.

the next move may well be his. if it is he better give Walter a number he will like.

...Instead both McColl and Kennedy appeared to value a debt free Rangers at around £6m.

Dave King can go on all he likes about Green's profit based business plan. These two guys had the financial clout to blow Greens bid out of the water and yet they didn't because they're no different than Green. To them it had to represent good business or else no deal.

So taking that into account, how much do you think THEY would have been willing to 'subsidise' the club.

I assume Kennedy's not needed with mccoll in there. after all interest on mccolls fortune is likely to.be a million a month. something Kennedy can't match.

I would still liked to have seen Kennedy in there mind you. smart guy and seriously rich. plus he brings souness which a lot of fans liked.

Join the two together and you've got an insurance policy if things go tits up for one of them financially. That's if they were actually serious about investing as opposed to just being a safety net.

I think both were taken aback by d&p selling to green on a no mater what basis.

Yes because they both thought the bids being put forward had next to no chance of persuading HMRC to let it go and figured they could 'save' the club for peanuts at the finish line.

There could still be profit made in the long term with the third division assuming we can get promoted up to the top pretty quickly, from what I gather Green's consortium are in no huge hurray and unlikely to make panic sales.

There's no getting away from the fact that very rich men who claim to be fans have been unwilling to put up much cash.

Now I don't blame them for that as such because they've worked hard to get where they are, football club is a difficult business etc, but it makes it even more cringeworthy that the RST and the like have tried to start boycotts, protests etc in favour of them.

They might not be rushing into a panic sale of the club right now. At least not while there's still a chance we could stay in the SPL.

If we end up in Div3 the assets, both playing and property, are another story entirely. Yes, we might just be able to turn a profit on our 3 year route back from Div3 if we become a feeder club for the EPL, championship and dare I say the SPL.

I think they'll be pretty damn worried if we end up in the third division!

Now get yourself a song to sing and sing it â??til youâ??re done

Yeah, sing it hard and sing it well

Send the robber baronâ??s straight to hell

The greedy thieves that came around

And ate the flesh of everything theyâ??ve found

Whose crimes have gone unpunished now

Walk the streets as free men now

Expecting today to be interesting again.

One does wonder at the resolve of Green. Slow (or non-existent) season book sales, rumoured player disharmony, uncertainly over SPL/SFA sanctions and fans less than convinced over his abilities.

I can see the McColl bat-phone ringing again soon.
