Lafferty in talks with Huddersfield Town

Recommended Posts

When anyone talks about Lafferty's ability, they always mention the 2010/2011 post split - its true that he hit a real purple patch, but thats 6 games out of 3 years!!!

I agree that for a fair number of games, he was played out of position, but overall when played as a striker I would say he's not been outstanding. Couple that with his reckless behaviour at times, and I don't think he will be a great loss.

Reasonable response, but you appear to be ignoring, as others are, the bigger picture. We can't really afford to lose anyone, certainly not for 3p and a pack of Wrigleys.

If we lost Naismith it's for a few million. All about money, which I can accept.

But, btw, right now, we have NO decent striker apart from Lafferty. We have Little, Kerkar, McCulloch and Healy. That's our embarrassment of riches up top. Can we just afford to 'get shot' of Lafferty because some of us don't overly rate him?

Valid points.....

We are VERY light up front. With Little, Kerkar, and possibly Healy's contracts up in the summer....and I don't rate McCulloch as a striker, we do need someone to bang in the goals.

The big question is - Can Lafferty really take the bull by the horns, and prove his worth??? Can he stay fit & out of trouble??? If he could do that, he would be worth trying to keep, but I have my doubts. I think he might start well, the fade.

I think Ally needs to do his best to extend Little & possibly Kerkar's contracts. Along with Hemmings, Fleck, Aluko & possibly McKay eventually, I think there are goals to be had.

We need to bring our annual wage bill down to around £13m until such times as we grow the business to allow us to increase it. I personally think that a wage cap should be introduced of 35% of turnover [excluding European competition money].

I honestly think McCulloch could get 15 goals, approx,a season playing up front. Now I'm not saying this to defend him as such but I do think the big man would get more goals than Lafferty, however I would just like to keep every player we have, which I can't see happening.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN are set to swoop for Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty.

The Championship new boys want to nab the Northern Ireland ace in a cut-price deal.

Lafferty can move on for a knockdown £575,000 fee thanks to a clause negotiated in his contract when Rangers stars agreed a wage cut in March.

That’s triggered on Friday — which is also the day Lafferty gets married to former Miss Scotland Nicola Mimnagh.

Huddersfield boss Simon Grayson and chairman Dean Hoyle are set to have a clear-out at the club despite their dramatic promotion in a Play-off Final shootout.

They are resigned to losing £5m-rated Scotland Under-21 ace Jordan Rhodes and Grayson has earmarked Lafferty and Ross McCormack as potential replacements.

Grayson signed former Motherwell hitman McCormack for Leeds in August 2010 and would like to team up with him again.

Meanwhile, Rangers’ creditors have been forced to endure another delay as they wait to discover how much they’ll recoup.

Administrators Duff and Phelps now won’t announce details of a CVA proposal until today. That’s just 24 hours before all 12 SPL clubs meet at Hampden for a crucial vote on possible sanctions on a Gers newco.

Joint administrator Paul Clark said: “A formal notice of the CVA meetings will be sent to all creditors and shareholders of the club tomorrow providing further details of the CVA process. The proposal will offer the best return for all stakeholders given the position the club’s in.

“If approved by the creditors, the CVA proposal will rescue the Company and finally enable it to exit administration.

The SPL has agreed to a “period of grace” for Gers to meet financial criteria to play in the league next term.

A league spokesperson said: “Rangers made an application for a period of grace in which to provide certain documents required by the SPL Financial Disclosure Requirements.

“The SPL Board granted a period of grace until June 15. The matter will be reviewed further at that time.”

Creditors have 14 days to consider the CVA proposal — with that deadline now just one day before the SPL deadline.

It means Charles Green’s proposed takeover won’t be settled until the middle of the close-season.

And a financial expert who played a role in Fergus McCann’s takeover of Celts has claimed Gers could be stuck in the wilderness for five years.

David Low said: “Green will be running a straitjacketed Rangers and Fergus found himself in the same position when he took over.

“As long as the Rangers punters understand the situation and continue to follow their team they should be back in contention for the title within three to five years.”

Matter of fact, I have been quite impressed by Little performances and the ability shown by Hemmings and McKay. Add to that McCulloch, Aluko, Naismith and Kerkar ... where would you play Lafferty?

A fit Lafferty right next to Naismith up front before any of the rest.

Where you impressed when he fainted against Celtic at Parkhead? Little is no more than average. He is not good enough for us long term and will never be a Championship winning striker. Not sure if you are or how you can say you have been impressed by McKay and Hemmings either. Kane has done nothing from any chances given and we have seen only minutes of McKay, who looks very raw. Neither ready to step up.

Lafferty should be Lees first pick partner.

Aluko and Naismith behind them both.
