Heavy rumour about Naismith doing the rounds.

We have a £10m built in structural deficit to deal with come hell or high water, realistically we'll be waving goodbye to the top five earners imho....:(

That figure of a £10m shortfall was before we lost reasonably high earners like Jelavic and Weir in January. With Papac, Healy and others leaving as well the wage bill will be down considerably to what it was in December. I would think that just losing Jelavic, Weir, Papac & Healy will cut the yearly wage bill by over £3m and with some other players leaving too it'll quickly be slashed down to below a £5m shortfall without having to lose our star players, certainly not all of them.

Which will leave a £5m deficit to be dealt with you seriously think that will be tackled without any of our top earners leaving?

Assuming that our under new ownership the club is actually run properly and realizes it's earning potential from both current and untapped revenue streams then yes, I think that shortfall can be made up without decimating the playing squad.

That's £100k a week every week without any European income, in the middle of one of the worst economic climates in history, I admire your optimism.

I'm saying that I think we can get it down below a £5m shortfall quite easily without selling all of our top players/earners. Take into account the departures of a bunch of slightly lower earners too and it all adds up. We've already lost Wylde and McMillan and are likely to lose some more whose contracts are due to end. I think we're going to have to cut our cloth and maybe sell a top earner like Whittaker as well to get it down below the £5m point. All just guess work of course, but out of our top earners there's three I'd really like to keep: McGregor, Davis & Naismith.

It's not easy to remain optimistic I can assure you, but in this case it's simple realism.

If those players are allowed to leave on knockdown fees then that's more than a £10m loss from square one. It'll leave us struggling to compete and then when we are actually able to replace them it would cost around £20m to bring in players of similar quality.

If that can be avoided by taking an initial hit on the shortfall through a £5-10m investment then I would think any forward thinking purchaser would choose that route.

I'd like to think we'd all like to keep McGregor, Davis and Naismith I just don't see how it's possible to do so, especially as a CVA is not a given and if we end up going down Duff & Phelps preferred newco route then factors out with the control of the club come into play.
