Well undecided on newco rangers

Motherwell say they have not decided how they would vote if a new Rangers entity applied to join the Scottish Premier League but they have promised to consult supporters if the issue becomes a reality.

And the club, who launched a fan ownership scheme in January, say they cannot separate "sporting integrity" from their plans for a sustainable future.

All clubs will vote on any newco application that is presented after May 30, and Motherwell director Derek Weir is on the SPL board that has the authority to decide until then.

The prospective ownership consortium fronted by Charles Green plans to push for a newco Rangers - which entails forming a new company to buy the current club's assets - if there is no agreement struck with creditors.

A Motherwell statement read: "The club continues to actively participate in the discussions being held at the SPL in relation to the current issues at Rangers Football Club.

"To date we have seen no proposals to transfer a share in the SPL to a 'newco' and have therefore made no decision on how we would vote if such a scenario did arise.

"We have purposefully avoided making any public statements to date given the uncertainty of the situation and the lack of any clarity on what, if anything, we will be required to vote on.

"Once we have full information we will be able to decide our position.

"Any speculation on the basis of conjecture only adds to the damage to the game and all of our interests.

"We are well progressed with a plan that is designed to bring both fan ownership and long-term financial stability to the club, without reliance on funding from either a bank or a benefactor.

"We do not believe we can separate the sporting integrity of our league from the sustainable future of our club; the two go hand in hand.

"Any decisions we take as a board are made in the best interests of the club with a view to achieving our stated aims for ownership and funding.

"In the event that a 'newco' proposal is presented to us, we intend to fully discuss with representatives of our supporters groups, prior to making any decision."

Motherwell's statement comes 24 hours after Aberdeen issued a vague statement, which mirrored a previous comment from Celtic, that they would act in the best interests of their club and Scottish football.

Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie last week claimed "sporting integrity is beyond purchase" while St Johnstone chairman Steve Brown on Wednesday insisted he would demand sanctions on any newco Rangers.

However, Kilmarnock's Michael Johnston argued Rangers had been punished enough following this season's 10-point deduction, failure to secure a UEFA licence and 12-month transfer embargo imposed by the Scottish Football Association.

And SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster has consistently claimed he sees little difference between a newco and a Company Voluntary Arrangement exit from administration.

So ithe interests of "sporting integrity" they will refuse the champions league spot they got due to our problems?I mean.... They did get that spot under somewhat false pretenses given they only finished 3rd in the league, so they will request their removal from the competition in the interests of sporting integrity.

Didn't think so

...and what about sellik getting a second bite at the cherry (which they choked on) when Sion humped them out with a much superior side than them?

The country has two CL places, therefore, the criteria is based on both league position and eligibility.

With Motherwell's recent history you'd think they might have some empathy.

Some of them will, some of them won't. It's unclear where their fans reps will stand given the recent message at Ibrox:

.

Just a bit of banter, but one thing's for sure, they should be very careful with their Karma because Motherwell could still end up in financial trouble again despite their grandiose plans. It won't take much.

There's a brave new world out there.

Gone are the days of men talking about football in pubs, and the occasional demo outside the Club.

Enter the day of the internet forum.

There are rabids out there, and the media and the Clubs pay heed to them.

I'm not sure that they are all "solid" fans, and wouldn't be surprised if most have less than 10 years of going to the occasional game under their belt, and find it more economic to watch matches on Mum and Dad's SKY.

Yet they can threaten to refuse to renew their season ticket.

Latest from KDS:

"So, more than 24 hours after a damning report on the utter corruption of Rangers, Rangers' employees past and present, Rangers' administrators and indeed prominent figures in the administration of Scottish football, feck all has been done except a press release from the incompetents at the SPL.

Harry Brady on the CU podcast got it right - everyone of them is sitting around waiting for HMRC, cause HMRC can take the blame and they won't have to.

About time someone grew a set, or borrowed just an ounce of our manager's courage and buried the bastards."

Where the hell is the football logic in that?
