Ibrox crisis has hit signing plans â?? Lomas

St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas claims the uncertainty regarding Rangers is having an impact on his long-term planning.

Despite a bid from Blue Knights yesterday, there is no guarantee Rangers will exit administration any time soon and manager Ally McCoist has broached the prospect of applying ot join the Third Division next season if the club does not survive in its present form.

Lomas is focused on helping St Johnstone seal a European place, with a big match at Motherwell today, but he would also like to have players secured for next season. With Rangers in crisis, and SPL clubs set to vote on financial fair play proposals on Monday, he feels unable to do so.

â??Thereâ??s a lot of unrest at the Glasgow Rangers situation,â? said Lomas. â??We are trying to get contract offers to players that we want. You would like to have the ones you would want for next season tied up already. Unfortunately with the current climate and the Rangers shadow hanging over everything itâ??s probably why it has taken longer.â?

St Johnstoneâ??s 2-0 defeat by Dundee United last weekend made them outsiders for the second Champions League spot, sitting five points behind third-placed Motherwell with four games left. Saints also trail United and are only two points above Hearts, who could deny them a Europa League place, but a win at Fir Park today would keep their hopes alive. Lomas, who has top scorer Francisco Sandaza suspended, said: â??Itâ??s a big week but itâ??s a great week, this is what you want to be in for, big games. â?

Meanwhile, Motherwell midfielder Keith Lasley has had no thoughts about changing his approach to the game as he prepares to return from his fourth suspension of the season. Lasley missed last weekâ??s defeat by Celtic for picking up six yellow cards in the SPL, having previously been sent off three times this season, twice against Hearts and once for a late tackle on Aberdeen midfielder Fraser Fyvie.

But the 32-year-old also picked up a player-of-the-month award and scored five goals, finding the best form of his career under Stuart McCall. And the central midfielder is not going to hold back when he faces St Johnstone.

â??I think my approach is wholehearted but before this season I had not been sent off,â? Lasley said. â??Obviously I was disappointed with the Aberdeen one, I fully held my hands up and apologised for it, but there was definitely nothing malicious in it. I canâ??t think of many other bad tackles Iâ??ve made this season. The one with the two bookings I was quite disappointed about.

â??You have got to accept the flak at times. On the surface, three red cards in a short period of time doesnâ??t look good. You have just got to accept that fact and move on. I certainly wonâ??t change my approach in any sort of way.â?

My heart so bleeds for him !!!!!!!

It's pretty self explanatory really and it further proves how much the SPL needs Rangers.

In Lomas', and other diddy teams' case, they'll attract players on the basis of said player getting to play the big matches at Parkhead and Ibrox, and hopefully a stepping stone to moving to either club. And getting to play in the world-renowned OF match itself.

So if one of these clubs' survival is threatened, the player may well think twice about joining a diddy club.

Also the plain fact that this admin period is a shocking advert for Scottish football - our league, as appallingly unattractive as it already was, is hardly a 10/10 now!

The Lomas comments are a clear sign of how our situation will be starting to worry the other SPL clubs.

If they don't know whether or not we'll be in the SPL next season, they have major issues with planning their budgets.

Judging by his side's 5-1 hammering at Firpark today, I think Lomas might be better off concentrating on his team's remaining fixtures before worrying about Rangers and how our situation affects his budget planning for the summer and next season. The difference between 4th and 6th place in the league will hit their pockets too....
