Can we be the new Elgin City?

Recommended Posts

First of all lad's I'm a True Blue through and through - so take this seriously...do you think we can win the title next year? Can we overcome the likes of Elgin, Montrose, Peterhead and Glasgow rivals Clyde? I think so....Follow Follow, we will Follow on.

The SPL will look on with interest, but SKY TV wont. :54:

Btw, I'm sorry for our predicament really am proper down about it and gutted our great club has been tarnished fully it just keeps looking like it's the 3rd division for us.

But you know what? I'll take that, I'll take the laborious climb back up, I'll take the scenes of joy in our young supporters watching us win and win, AND win the league, AND win it again, lets face it what do they know? Are you gonna tell them?

We will return, our fan base is so great there is no other outcome.

I'm resigned to the 3rd division I think now there is nothing else but. So ok lets get on with it, sure it hasn't happened yet but c'mon, it's looking more like it as each day passes.

im ready for the third division and will immediately buy a season book the minute it becomes official. and i will be there for division 2 and 1 for however long it takes to get back up.

it is the only real option left open to us. Do we really want to be the whipping boys for the rest of the spl for three seasons. no we dont.

i think the will of our support has been seriously underestimated by those who are willing us to go down.

bring it on i say.

I can understand the attraction at 'starting again' but I'd much prefer to stay in the SPL.

For one thing I don't think the new sanctions will be voted through by the other clubs next week (too many could be facing the same scenario in the future) and I also think we'll win any appeal against the SFA embargo (partially at least).

Starting afresh in Division 3 (if accepted) would be fascinating but I'm not convinced it's as attractive as it sounds. In fact it's very dangerous and I think it's extremely arrogant of us to suggest we'd be back in the SPL within 3 seasons. What if the SPL change their rules/size again in the interim? How soon would fans get fed up of this new adventure? Could we afford to retain and maintain Ibrox Stadium and Auchenhowie?

Lots of questions and absolutely no guarantees.

I was at Ibrox last night for the '72 cup winners cup fundraiser and from talking to some Rangers officials and fighting fund commitee members it would appear there have already been talks with the SFL about going to the 3rd Division. Almost as a big f**k you to the SFA. Roll the dice and take our chances and see what happens to the sky deals, SPL league sponsorship etc. The deals might still work out, they might not but, it could be an expensive game of russian roulette with the finances of scottish football.

Rangers will certainly look into all possible resolutions of the situation. Talking up a move to Div3 is genuine I'm sure but also a method of pressurising the bodies to act more fairly.

It's a romantic idea. Starting in the 3rd division and winning each league every year until we get back into the SPL and become champions again four years later. If only.

I just don't see how our club set-up, as large as it is, could survive through those lower divisions. The maintenance and running costs of Ibrox alone must be massive and would we be able to keep Auchenhowie going (I doubt it). The standard of player would be so much worse than we have now that there's no guarantee we would win the leagues each year. Hanging over us would be the threat of running out of money again and so it starts all over again.

Not for me. I hate the SFA and SPL for what they are doing to us but I'd still prefer to stay where we are.

I'm sure by having an official discussion about the possibility of moving should be enough to greatly reduce the sanctions on appeal.

I would expect both the fine and transfer embargo to be halved.

The transfer embargo might, perversely, help with the buyout. I would give the new owner time to get in, evaluate and get the club on a steady footing without the pressure from (some) fans to spend, spend, spend and get us back to our former glory. There are a lot of fans that think once we get a new owner we are back to where we were but, they will be sadly mistaken. Obviously, the fans on here know better :-)

I have often questioned the logic of going to the 3rd Div. I believe that with current costs, the team would not survive.

However, after seeing the DR today, who've a "feature" on a possible team for next season with the youngsters etc I actually quite like the look of the team - with McCabe, Hutton, Ness, Perry, Fleck etc. I'm pretty sure those guys could stick around and do VERY well in the lower leagues.

There is also the prospect of the Scottish cup - a possibility of Europe maybe.

As for running costs, I think certainly 1/2 of Ibrox would be pretty much moth-balled for a couple of years. Avg attendances for the 3rd div are in the hundreds, never mind 10's of thousands. While I'm sure the Gers support would still turn out, it would be greatly reduced. Season ticket prices would also have to be reduced accordingly, as well as gate prices.

Extra revenue streams would need to be found. Possibly sharing the facilities @ MP with other teams/groups etc.

I think for the most part it is a fairy tale, but one that might just be believable!!!

I think that might be a very valid point of view!!!
