Why does liquidation and newco worry so many?

Recommended Posts

I might be utterly naive here, but a part of me thinks that starting again is the best thing that could happen to us.

No one seems to know if we'd lose our history and trophies, but given Celtic, Fiorentina and Leeds haven't, can't see why we would. It would give us a chance to start again, to be taken into a proper business framework rather than the shocking and nigh-on illegal way we've been run in recent decades.

As a newco we'd still be at Ibrox, we'd still be Rangers, and we'd still have our heritage. We might lose a lot of the squad, but we've had an overhaul in the past when Advocaat basically bought a new team.

We might even consider application for England and starting in a new league, rather than the backwater that is the SPL.

Am I way off base here?

Checking the wikipedia entry it says nothing about Leeds actually being liquidated. I thought they were just given huge penalties.

I was under the impression Leeds became a newco.

Guest Nacho's his name

Leeds kept their history like Fiorentina, I don't understand the legalities but it sounds similar to what Bill Miller is proposing by transferring assets to the newco before the old company is liquidated.

I don't understand how that's even legally possible but that's lawyers for you

Leeds didn't go down the newco route as far as I know. They were put into administration and then their owner bought back the club from the administrators (KPMG?) with a deal that was probably only worth pennies in the pound for creditors. I don't know how the hell their administrators wangled it, but they somehow came out of administration without a CVA and that's why they were given a second points penalty of 15 points after their initial 10 point deduction.

I have serious doubts about it. Imagine december playing Ross country away or at Ibrox?

I'm nit-picking here, (sorry Bears) but Ross County fans might be saying that about us - They are an SPL side next season. :D

Fiorentina went down the drain, and a new club was started and entered Division 3 or 4, with a similar name and playing essentially at the same ground. A wee bit later, that new club essentially bouight the old club's remains including its history, jerseys and colours ... the fanbase probably never changed anyway. Ask any Italian now and they will say the Viola that we met in the 60s are the same that we met 3 years ago.

What has to be clear here is that any new Rangers in the 3rd division will have to find players willing to play for them down there. And while e.g. Ibrox' with 20 to 30k will do wonders to the finances of the lower league's clubs - and thus Scottish football - we need to finance a team capable of gaining a triplet of promotions. Can anyone imagine that our first teamers will follow the jersey into division 3? With a weekly wage in the regions of hundreds and a few thousand pounds top? Make no mistake here, unless we find a pretty rich man financing us, this will be murder. And, of course, the SPL will suffer all along the way.

Obviously, the whole affair that is currently being done by the SFA and SPL, not to mention HMRC, is harming the club's future to no end. The hypocracy that comes out of Regan's mouth when stating he wants Rangers to stay in tact - history and all - while burning every bridge and basis beneath us and them is beyond belief. If that goes on, we need some very stubborn chap like Kennedy to make a takeover happen no matter what.
