Who will stay and who will go?

Recommended Posts

It has been a quite tumultuous period at Ibrox, with administration's grip tightening ever-further and no apparent end in sight. The league has now been formally wrapped up by our bitter rivals, and the one piece of distinct good news in Govan has been offset by the counter-news which could render it pointless. The good news is Steven Naismith seems to have returned to full training, and may well feature before this term is out. The bad news is West Bromwich Albion are circling like vultures for his services. And should the number 14 leave, he might not be the only departure this summer.

This week a look at all the major movers and shakers on the playing staff. Who will we be able to keep this summer and who is vulnerable to the vultures? Total speculation on my part of course. What are your thoughts?

Regarding Naismith, if Rangers accepted an offer of £2m for a player who is twice that of big gub mcgobblebaws, who Scotland's shame sold for £11.5m then I'd imagine every single club with £2m to spare would be throwing their keys into the bowl. If Mccannaeseepasthischin is worth £11.5m then Naismith is surely worth at least £14m.

I will be heartbroken if he leaves & I'll be shell-shocked if its for a paltry £2m.

The position we're in, unless we get out of admin soon - is all about running costs and keeping us afloat. As such valuable assets lose their value and can be lost on the cheap.

I know, but it would be a bitter pill to swallow.

It doesn't make sense to me. We enter admin because we are in dire straights, the admin team have the (very slow) job of getting us on an even financial keel by slashing costs & selling assets but sell the assests at, potentially, a 10th of what they.are worth.

If you want to buy a prized asset from a rich company, say Messi from Barca, expect to pay over the odds for him. If you want to buy a prized asset from a company who are financially sinking, you have all the power because they need money badly.

It's basically the same thing as a firesale.

As far as I can tell, we shouldn't need the money. Selling our top player assets only reduces the value of the company in selling to the bidders especially as it's more expensive to bring in an equivalent player than it is to sell him - signing on fees and agent fees etc. To lose a player for far less than his value would be folly in our current situation.

HOWEVER, I would presume the temporary wage cuts came at a price - I think that many players may have agreed in return for a low release price in their contracts so they can easily leave if they don't like the look of the new owners or the finances or lack of competitiveness of the club.

If we lose players cheaply it's because they WANT to go rather than selling them cheap to balance the books. The books are already unbalanced but that will be taken care of in a CVA and sale to a new owner.

I can't see how selling a player cheap right now, would benefit the club, future owners or even the creditors.
