overseas bids.....

OK the American bid might open doors to more investment from the States but can't see the same from SE Asia. Just based on the fact that there must be a significant number of wealthy bears over there, no evidence at all.

I don't think the Sing bid is about reaching ex-pats but more about growing the brand with the locals.

Ng believes Rangers can become a big thing over there. I'm not so sure but I'm not a successful Asian businessman.

What a lot of Rangers fans are reluctant to accept is we're not as big as we think we are. You go around Asia and ask who Rangers are the first thing that they'll say is,"eerrmmmmm, ermmmmm"

We are naturally "big" amongst Ex-pats and people with family connections to the club, but outside that, we're fuck all. That comes from 20 years experience and 90 odd countries visited, plus living in Asia for 7 +years now.

if Ng says' he can raise our profile amongst us, then good luck to him

I can't see us gaining much from either market while we still play in the SPL. If I had to choose between the two based on that criteria, it would be the US bid, simply because of the family ties over there.

I don't trust the yank at all mate, major alarm bells ringing, same with the BK's to be honest

Even if he succeeded in raising our profile, I still don't see where the huge financial gains would come from. Increased TV income would be the property of the SPL, and has anyone in Asia ever bought a legitimate piece of official merchandise? :D

Good points

1. Rangers games are live here anyway through satelittle tv

2. man U, Arsenal, Che;sea have official shops here, but i never see them busy. You know why? You can pay £4-50 for a top out the shop. or walks 50 ft and buy a fake one for £2 that looks exact same. But is is FAR more expensive to get the EPL package for football here. I have the full platinum package for my TV system. It cost roughly £70 a month. With out the EPL i think it's about £30

In the Middle east the SPL is on the equivalent of free view

I'm certainly sceptical about any claim that we can make our brand prevalent abroad.

However, what is certain is that our domestic market is saturated and unprofitable so we must explore other opportunities. All the better if done by experts within these emerging markets; as opposed to the odd business envoy tip.

Over here Chelsea and Man U have a deal with Singha beer. There's those MASSIVE bill boards with them everywhere.

Chelsea are also sponsored by Coca Cola here.

I'm sure you all know they play out here most pre-seasons. Normally. Thai>Malaysia>HK. I'm sure Indo & Vietnam will apear soon enough as a regular visit.

What we could do is piggy back with them and be involved in a Tri-country tournament playing friendlies in each country against the likes of Man U, Chelsea, PSG, Ajax etc.

That is where Bill Ng expertise and contacts could come in. He could get in touch with the major brands and do deals?

it might be a way to get an initial interest in us with the local population first?
