Fans threaten boycott over liquidation fears

Recommended Posts

Shouldnt need cards, Rangers supporters outside the Main Stand after the game. Thousands of us, would be a better public demonstration.

it is on paper but is potential for jail bait if people get lively. In the stadium is safer IMO

RANGERS' administrators last night pleaded with the supporters not to scare off any of the club's three potential new owners as fans prepare for a massive demonstration against the possibility of liquidation.

Both the Blue Knights and a consortium from Singapore are committed to taking Rangers out of administration via Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) but there has not been public assurance that a consortium from the USA intend to do that rather than take Rangers into full or partial liquidation and form a "newco". That would effectively mean a full stop in the club's history. It would require them to start again faced with three years of ineligibility for European football and having to apply to play in the Scottish Premier League, with the likelihood of points deductions as a condition of entry.

The prospect of liquidation has horrified most fans and those who attend tomorrow's home game against St Mirren will be encouraged to hold up red cards in the 18th and 72nd minutes â?? alluding to 1872, the year of the club's formation â?? to show their opposition to the newco option in a "red card to liquidation" display.

Duff & Phelps issued a carefully-worded statement last night which said recent weeks had been "extremely turbulent and a difficult time" for the club and urged supporters not to do anything which could affect how potential buyers view the takeover process. "We are aware that some fans wish to stage a protest," said joint administrator David Whitehouse. "We understand their deep concern but the bidding process is at a critical and sensitive stage and, as administrators, we cannot support action â?? even though we favour a CVA â?? that may be interpreted as ultimately detrimental to the club's prospects of emerging from the administration process successfully.

Four bids had been received by Wednesday's 5pm deadline but within 24 hours the proposed offer from a German sports company had been analysed and rejected. "I can confirm today that we will be considering further three of the four bids submitted yesterday," said Whitehouse. "We have had a number of discussions with the interested parties today and have stressed the benefits to them

Unfortunately we would need 10+ years of CL football to cover a 134mill debt. Any new owner may have to think of Liquidation if we lose the big tax case.

If McCoist is in charge of us it would be a lot longer than that! :D

If we get hammered for the full amount in the BTC I can't see any other outcome but liquidation, but it's a big if. I still think HMRC will settle for about 20mill if they win.
