Rangers Due £250,000 For Bendiksen

Recommended Posts

Some more good news on the financial front.

RANGERS can plan for a welcome £250,000 windfall after FIFA ruled Tromso must pay compensation for the transfer of Thomas Kind Bendiksen.

The 22-year-old signed a three-year deal with Tromso in his native Norway in January after four injury-plagued years at Ibrox. Rangers had offered the striker a new contract and so believed they were entitled to compensation as the player was under 23, while Tromso denied they were liable for a development fee.

FIFA has ruled in Rangers' favour and Tromso director Stig-Ove Sandnes accepted the decision of the governing body. He said: "Rangers weren't interested in a transfer fee at first because they thought they would get more money in compensation if the matter went to FIFA.

"We now know why, because they have been in so much financial difficulties."

Bendiksen signed for Rangers in August 2007, but his progress was hindered by a serious knee injury.

He scored in a friendly defeat by Hamburg in November and made his first competitive start for the club in a 2-1 win over Dunfermline in December. Bendiksen made two more substitute appearances, in victories over Hibernian and Inverness, but opted to return to Norway.

Great news! That's a lot of money for the club right now.

Hopefully that money is used to pay our SPL debts to remove the chance of further sanctions against the club.

Does anyone here know exactly what SPL debts we have outstanding? There's obviously what's due to Dundee Utd and I think we owe ICT money too. Then there's the remainder of the Wallace transfer fee, rumoured to be about £800k. Anything else?

I'm sure that a deal with ICT was announced the day the wage cuts were finally agreed, so that should have been squared up now. The Dundee United money for the SPL game hasn't been paid as per agreement - that's on top of the SC money. Motherwell on Saturday. :D

Are you sure we still owe this? I'm sure I heard it mentioned by a Journalist that we don't owe anything for Wallace...

I'm almost certain.

It's been widely reported in the Scottish press that Hearts made us an offer in January whereby they would reduce the outstanding amount of £800k to £700k if they were paid the £700k in full immediately as opposed to sticking to the payment plan which was £700k paid initially, a payment of £500k this coming July and a final payment of £300k in July 2013. Craig Whyte rejected their offer choosing to stick to the payment plan in the original deal. Several weeks later Whyte took the club into administration.
