Craig Whyte ordered to pay estranged wife £5000 a month

Yes. A basic flat in Monaco costs a million euros.

Even if his Monaco flat cost £2m it doesn't mean he paid for it without getting a mortgage.

To get residency you have to buy property AND deposit €100k in a Monaco bank.

It wasn't his own money he used as pre-takeover proof of funds to be able to clear RFC's debt to LBG, so if he can pull that stunt off I think he can manage to find £100k of swindled cash to put in a Monaco bank.

They reckon to live comfortably in Monaco you need an income of about 2 million euros. Below that and you're probably better off living in a cheaper country which charges tax.

Who's "they"? What's "comfortably"?

Monaco is a VERY expensive place to buy or rent property. It's a slightly expensive place to eat in restaurants, but not as expensive as somewhere like Norway. When it comes to everyday living in terms of going to the supermarket to buy food & drink, Monaco is NOT an expensive place to live because prices on average are only about 8% higher than France as a whole.

He's also bought Castle Grant and reputedly renovated it at a cost of £5M.

We don't know for certain whether he's mortgaged up to the eyeballs on the castle or not. What we do know is that he's been taken to court by at least one supplier of materials for the castle renovation.

So the guy must be worth at least £7M in personal wealth and probably quite a bit more considering his castle spend - you don't spend all your money on your property.

If he sold the castle, Monaco pad and any other "assets", then paid off his debts, what would he be left with? The answer is that we simply don't know.

So how come you don't get this despite sounding pretty knowledgeable on subject of money?

That's a strange comment!

Castle was purchased for £720k with a mortgage provided by the Bank of Scotland.

Interesting!

I wonder if the figure of £5m for the castle renovations is accurate or if it's another one of Craig Whyte's wee porkie pies.

Apparently his previous pad in Monaco was a one bedroomed flat in a mixed residential/commercial block which backed on to a motorway, though his present address in Monaco is said to be rather more salubrious.

Owns/owned/had beneficial use of ? a nice pad at 69 Chemin des Canebiers 06130 Grasse (former bolt hole of the Haitian dictator Baby Doc!) run a property company (named after the property I assume) from there which ended up (surprise, surprise) liquidated.
