Police close in on Craig Whyte

Recommended Posts

From the Record:

POLICE will today meet Rangersâ?? administrators as the net closes on shamed owner Craig Whyte.

Record Sport can reveal CID officers will ask the money men from Duff and Phelps to hand over crucial documents relating to Whyteâ??s takeover last May and the £24.4million deal he struck with Ticketus to finance his regime.

And the release of the Whyte Files could contain the hard evidence which the Crown Office will need if criminal charges are to be brought and arrests made over one of the biggest scandals to ever rock Scottish football.

Cops are concentrating on three key areas â?? the legality of Whyteâ??s initial deal with former owner Sir David Murray, the movement of the money raised from his notorious link-up with Ticketus and what happened to the missing £15m of unpaid PAYE and VAT since the start of the season.

And last night a source close to the investigation said: â??Itâ??s up to the Crown Office to decide whether the police have amassed sufficient evidence in order to allow prosecutions. But the net is clearly tightening.â?

Last month, just three days after Whyte had tipped Rangers under, former chairman Alastair Johnston handed over his own detailed dossier into the most disastrous deal ever struck in the clubâ??s 140-year history.

Since then Strathclyde Police have been attempting to build a case by sifting through that paperwork and engaging in discussions with the administrators.

But today they will take their investigation a step further by demanding the release of further information which has been uncovered since Duff and Phelps moved in to stop the stricken SPL champions from going to the wall.

When Johnston first contacted the police the administrators were still searching for the Ticketus cash. They later confirmed the missing millions â?? raised by selling off huge chunks of future season tickets â?? had been used to finance Whyteâ??s takeover.

It is not only Whyteâ??s part in the proceedings which is coming under intense police scrutiny.

The role of others involved in the deal, including that of former club secretary Gary Whithey â?? who has since resigned from his position with London lawyers Collyer Bristow â?? is also being

examined.

And club sources believe todayâ??s meeting could provide detectives with the proof they need in order to take their probe to the next level.

We were told: â??The police have indicated they are all over this case and that there is already a considerable amount of traction.

â??They certainly appear to be going after this quite aggressively now.â?

The men from Duff and Phelps, meanwhile, were continuing their efforts to find a new owner yesterday.

A fourth potential bidder stepped forward on Monday and last night Record Sport learned this latest would-be saviour is in fact British based, despite initial reports claiming the offer had come from an overseas consortium.

New York investment group Fortress â?? who were brought to the table by Whyte last week â?? so far are understood not to have entered the running. A consortium from Singapore have also yet to make an official move.

And, having asked all interested parties to show their hand by last Friday, the administrators may now

have to focus on dealing with the four firm deals which are in front of them and selecting one as the preferred bidder.

Paul Murray and his Blue Knights consortium, Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy and a Chicago bid involving Club 9 Sports all met Fridayâ??s deadline.

Record Sport can reveal Murray â?? who has secured the backing of three main supportersâ?? groups â?? was locked in talks with the administrators again yesterday as he continues his battle to win control of the club and open it up to a form of fan ownership.

Murray has also negotiated a potential deal to bring Ticketus on board as a partner although any alliance between the two will depend on the outcome of an ongoing hearing at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, where administrators are seeking guidance over the legal strength of the original £24.4m arrangement with Whyte.

It is understood a final decision could be delivered as soon as today.

Guest Dutchy

It's about time the police got their finger out, although I agree it's a very complex thing to sort out. Just as well it's D&P that have done the investigations.

Do we have to pay the police for asking D&P for these documents, maybe pay them along with the match policing bill, lol.

The headline makes it sound like The Fugitive with tracker dogs chasing him down in a forest or something...

Nearly - a castle within a forest... ;)

And they're using rabid Celtic fans, not Alsations.

I'd pay good money to watch that tbh.

Would be even more worthwhile if Whyte has undertaken some martial arts/combat training..

He could have been mindfucked to work undercover for the HMRC at Rangers and shady government agents deployed to bring him in from his Monaco bolthole.

It's more believable than him being a Rangers supporter in this for the good of the club anyway!

You do know in the last decade that Alsatians as a breed are considered a poor choice as a family dog because they are so inbred. Often, the hound barely reaches 4-5 years before hip replacement surgery is required. Those that receive the appropriate proceedure can be seen replete in the plastic neck guard, to restrain them from licking the large operational scar.

I suspect society would benefit from the increasing Alsatian experience. Ra Yahoos are inbred too and should be required to wear the cone of shame around their brass necks. It should be a cone-tract of their very existance.
