Broadfoot Interview on paycuts

Recommended Posts

Lets get real....Broadfoot would probably have been on about £10k per week. That means he'll be on around £2.5K PER WEEK or £10k pcm. That is a helluva lot of cash to play a couple of games of football per week.

While I do agree that it is admirable that these guys have taken a 75% wage cut for the benefit of the club, being honest their not exactly gonna starve or miss their mortgage payments etc....

Well if he is living on his savings, what he is getting per month is going to his mortgage etc.

The point is he could have left, and as a free agent got another club at the same or more than he was on.

I disagree.

You missed my point....

If you had a salary of 40k/pcm you're bills would come close to 40k/pcm. Firstly, after tax how much of that 40k/pcm do you think he see's? If you were paid that per year I think you see about 26k of it after tax (this is a guess), so assuming my guess is correct then he would see 26k/pcm. Take from that a substantial mortgage, insurance, car payments, agents fees, normal expenses, his new baby, blah blah blah carry on. THEN take 75% off of that 26k/pcm.. I think that it doesnt matter what your wage is, you will be living close to the limits (unless ofc you are Bill Gates :fish:) & a 75% wage reduction for our players, though not the end of the world, would require substantial change.

It's not fair, imo, to say that just because they are high earners that they should just deal with their shit & take a massive pay cut in their stride. At the end of the day, in their profession these salaries are normal & if they can earn it then fair enough. They command respect for even considering taking a cut, nevermind actually following it through no matter what they are earning or how much the cut. Not everyone would.

Broadfoot surely wouldnt have been on 10k a week.

He must have been on at least that to take a 75% cut. I could be wrong but I thought (based on non-fact conversations at work/pub etc);

12.5k+ = 75% cut

7.5k+ = 50% cut

3k+ = 25% cut

Basically the average SPL footballer is living a life of luxury as we know it...I hope the guy's who represent RFC show the world what it's like to play football for the club of their dreams, I mean show the world, not that they'de be particularly interested btw.

At the end of the day footballers are renegade's only interested in themselves the days of Pele, Baxter, Charlton & Best are long gone, MONEY has took over.

Lionel Messi is an exception he only plays football because he loves the game, and subsequently gets paid ridiculously amounts of money for it, there are many like him.

The Beckhams and Ronaldo's and many before have taken the money before the love of the game.

Let's see how true our players are including Broadfoot and see if they can really step up to plate and show themselves to be serious footballers capable of playing football.

Let's see.

.

As an aside, his buy out clause is about £230M. That's his value.

How can you state that when the players have just taken massive wage cuts?

I think you are spot on regarding money taking over football and I happen to think it is ruining the game.

Only couple of things I would take issue with is suggesting Beckham took money before the love of the game. The guy would stay behind in training with Goram at Man U and hit 300 free kicks to try to perfect the art - that, to me, is dedication. He went to Madrid primarily because Fergie wanted him out due to his lifestyle at the time with Posh. So he went. I actually think his move to Galaxy was driven more by Posh than Beckham - I suspect she wanted to make a name for herself in Hollywood so wanted that move and, to be fair, how many of us refuse to do what the wife says ? Also, I reckon he trult felt he could increase the exposure of "soccer" stateside.

I never used to like Beckham but the more you actually find out about the guy the more likeable he becomes.

Also, with respect to OUR players, I actually think they already have stepped up to the plate. It matters not in instances like this just how good they are as footballers (they cant always play well, collectively or individually), what DOES matter is that they have done THEIR bit to help save the club. And that, to me at least, is an incredibly noble, selfless gesture in a sport riddled with money grabbers (although.... to caveat this.... they may also have realised that if they had been made redundant they would have had ZERO salary till end of season given they would struggle to find a new club.....
