Could Rangers Play in England or SFL3 - Information Update

Recommended Posts

Why do you make it a couple of seasons? We are barred from next season due to technicalities (March 31st deadline). What prevents us from playing in Europe the season after next?

Do you think we can come through CL qualifiers in two years time? Unless money is suddenly injected and the squad radically overhauled we'll be easy prey for the Malmo's and Maribor's of the qiualifiers. If we do go down the Newco route we won't get near Europe for min 3 seasons, either way I think Euro football is four or five season away.

Well they must have done it in the last few weeks then Cal , as it was clearly stated that even if Cardiff won they wouldnt be in Europe , but I may be wrong on this

I read this but can't find it now but maybe this should suffice:

http://cardiff-city.blogspot.com/2012/01/one-game-away-from-european-football.html

"One of the bonuses of being in the Carling Cup Final a chance of European football if we were to win, wouldnâ??t that be great. The Welsh FA and English FA are to hold talks with UEFA to confirm Cardiff City could take the Europa League spot offered to the winner. The three came to an agreement when the Bluebirds reached the 2008 FA Cup Final, at the time it was reported the Welshman would have a wild card to play in the same competition."

I do think we have the nucleus of a good team. And even next season is a long way away, so who knows how many decent Aluko-style signings we can make. If we do it Harakiri-style like this term, we face a long wait indeed. But luckily enough, this is not how football works.

I agree to a certain extent. I didn't fully explain the point I was trying to make. I think that UEFA would object as they treat Scotland and England differently, and any legal challenge would likely be dismissed by EU as football tends to be regional and they would allow UEFA to set reasonable rules. The EU would not prevent it per se but they would not allow UEFA rules to be overturned. You may disagree with this and I'm no EU legal expert, but it's just my opinion.

I think due to their fingers being burnt with Bosman that you are probably correct but UEFA would have to take it into account and the EU would have to act if a strong case was brought to them.

I don't buy into the freedom of trade argument as then you could have clubs just creating their own leagues left, right and centre and I think that they would argue that there has to be some restrictions due to it being sport. However you never know and it wouldn't be the first time that the EU legal logic has shocked me.

I can't see why you can't have clubs just creating their own leagues left, right and centre. Sounds perfectly legal to me - they just wouldn't come under the umbrella of the current bodies.

I can't believe there are laws to restrict sport; however, I'd agree that Associations are allowed to have reasonable, binding rules like this. However, in this case you're bound by the rules of your Association, they are not the laws themselves.

Being UK certainly makes a far more compelling argument than, say, Belgium to Holland, and I would hope that this could be the loophole that could be exploited if we were to go down this route. I don't think the historic precedents are really of much relevance to this though.

Agreed.

Which one?

I think I read it on here but may have got the wrong end of the stick...

This is the only source I can find of such info:

This is a moot point, nothing will happen on this until the guys holding the purse strings tell the English Leagues no new deals until you bring in Rangers and (through gritted teeth) Celtic. Then and only then will anything happen.

No matter whether we could or couldnt , one thing that is certain is playinmg in England leads to no European football , as stated this season if Cardiff had won the cup V liverpool they would not have been put forward for europe , so this should end any debate

I am not sure where that was stated but I have previously posted this from Wikipedia:

Cardiff City are also the only non-English side to have won the FA Cup, winning it in 1927; they again reached the final in 2008, prompting the English FA to change the rules to allow Welsh clubs to represent England in UEFA competitions should they qualify to do so.

It was on talk sport , UEFA had asked the English FA to confirm exactly who would be in europe should Cardiff win , the answer that came back was that it would be Liverpool , they spent the whole morning discussing it , there was no mention of the English FA changing their rules , that was the week before I went skiing so would be the week of the 20th feb
