A Match for Europe & The Debate (BBC)

Recommended Posts

Just back from the Beeb.

The show is on 5 topics: Rangers, Finance, Youth Development, Governance and Structure. The "audience" could only speak if spoken to. They came to me at the beginning of the last segment on Structure but as they had rearranged the seats Rob McLean was looking in the wrong direction so I might have been left on the cutting room floor. Managed to get in a sentence or two about bigger leagues and fairer distribution on the money to encourage more competition.

I am the guy with the red tie and no head in the back row behind Longmuir.

Thanks for asking and no slagging please. Interesting to see how many people it takes to put in a simple show like that and to be able to chat with the likes of Houston and Pressley after the show.

Pressley made a lot of our points for us, as did Rod Petrie e.g. TV ruining the game.

If UEFA\FIFA are serious with their plan to make football a fairer game where everyone lives within their means and payoffs from sugar-daddy's are not allowed then hopefully we can get back to fairer football and clubs no longer feel the need to find illegal or law bending ways to finance themselves.

Manchester City have protested against the new laws. I wonder why?

The new laws are being brought in next year 2013 and by 2016 all clubs should be run within their means. I believe the debt must be reduced by 2014=reduction of 30%, 2015=70% reduction and 2016 all clubs debt free.

Port Vale also went into administration today as well.

If you're speaking as chairman of SDS, I don't believe that you should be using term like fairness. It is not for the chairman to decide what is fair and what isn't. I dont think it is fair. It may be more even, but that doesn't mean it is fair.

Take the point BD, not sure now exactly how I put it on air but in our survey:

  • Greater sharing of central revenue is likely to increase competition according to 83% of respondents.
  • Two-thirds of fans stated that they would attend more regularly if there was more competition

When I was rehearsing it in my head I said "more equitable" but as I say I can't remember exactly how I put it.

If I got it wrong then I apologise but it was quite nerve racking waiting an hour or more not knowing if or when you would be asked to speak.
