Paul McConville, of McConville O’Neill, 18 Waterloo Street, Glasgow, has been sequestrated and his practising certificate automatically suspended under the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980. It was suspended on 28 April 2010 and means he cannot practise as a solicitor at the present time.

An agent for the Accountant in Bankruptcy (AIB) has been appointed as his trustee. Clients of the firm should contact the AIB’s Agent with any queries.

Mr McConville was the only partner in the firm McConville O’Neill.

The Society has received a number of complaints from the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, which it is investigating.

Clients who have concerns about how their case has been handled should contact the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission on 0131 528 5111.

Note to editors: All complaints about Scottish solicitors should be made to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, irrespective of when the work was undertaken.

The Society handles all complaints about solicitor’s conduct and complaints about service arising out of work carried out up to October 1, 2008.

The Law Society of Scotland cannot give out details of individual complaints, unless a complainer has put the complaint in the public domain. In that case, the Society can confirm whether it is dealing with a complaint, and what stage the complaint is at.

The Agent for the Accountant in Bankruptcy is:

Brian Johnstone

Armstrong Watson Insolvency

51 Rae Street

Tel: 01387 269 726

Just because we don't like the messenger doesn't necessarily mean we should ignore the message, we really need to learn that and we really need to start keeping a closer eye on our enemies we ignore them at our peril.

Agreed, and I don't feel particularly comfortable with the whole thing.

However it depends on how it is done. It could be done fairly easily to ensure that the trustees acted properly.
