Paul Murray registers interest in buying Rangers

Recommended Posts

I listened to him live on the radio tonight and he's just trying to send out a rallying call to rich Rangers fans to step forward or get together to provide an alternative to Whyte. I don't think he actually has an alternative at the moment though.

I wouldn't underestimate him unlike Whyte he carries some weight and respect in business circles.

He just didn't sound like he has a plan in the interview, but it's entirely possible that he's keeping his cards close to his chest and meanwhile trying to smoke out extra investors or partners for a takeover attempt.

He can't have a definitive plan till he has a definitive picture of the financial vandalism Whyte has wrought.

All that was tried two years ago mate and not one of them would put their hands in their pockets when the chance was there to buy the Club from SDM. Of course it's a different ball game now but agreeing a structure for it is the biggest obstacle.

They have an imminent meeting with Whyte have they not ?

They'll still be trying to work out how the fans can take over the club at a time which is their biggest opportunity to do so since the RSTs inception.

Okay ... say he would have served the debt, and raised 25m to invest ... what of the HMRC case? He had this moonbeam idea of leaving that with MIH, which IMHO would have been a non-starter. So what is he talking about when slagging off Whyte time and again. He watch us drift to the edge of the cliff doing nothing, then coming up with a magnificent masterplan 2 minutes before midnight? Really ...

But under Whyte we seemed to have plunged even further into debt.

I dont doubt that the HMRC case is an anvil around the nec of ANYONE in charge of the club.

But just what has Craig Whyte invested ? Seriously, what money has he spent ont he club ? We have an additional 9 million of debt that we didnt have when he took over, we sold Jelavic for 5.5 million, sold 3 yrs of season tickets for 20-24 million and shaved millions off the wage bill.

Now, you may say that the running costs of the club are 3.5 million a month, which is true, whilst the income is 8-900k less than that a month. So there is a 10 million black hole, as confirmed by Craig Whyte himself, are we agreed on that at least - the figure of 10 million that Craig Whyte himself confirmed ?

So.... the 10 million black hole.... surely was a number he knew of before he took over and by acting legally and above board. So he has just closed that black hole by not paying PAYE & NIC for the last 10 months.

We collected 5.5 on Jelavic, we collected 1.7 on Bougherra, rather than going through it all there was a post I made a couple weeks ago analysing how much we have spent on players and how much we have saved or sold players for and we are, for the season, effectively breakeven on player transactions.

The concourse renovations were being carried out by the catering contractors and the big screens are rumoured to have been paid from a government grant.

So I ask again, just what has Whyte actually invested in the club ?

I am by no means saying that Paul Murray is our saviour, not at all. But to say "what of the HMRC case" is an accusation that could still be levelled at Craig Whyte. And, it could be argued, "what has Craig Whyte invested of his own personal wealth?" Is it just the solitary quid that he bought the club from David Murray for.

There is little to suggest that he has stuck his hand in his own pocket.

Now, admittedly, I dont know what the fuck is going on at the club - and I hope, beyond all hope, that Craig Whyte has been slow-playing pocket aces and has just seen a pair of aces on the flop.

You may be right that his idea of leaving the HMRC debt with MIH was a non-starter but we dont know that for sure. But even if it was a moonbeam idea then it is no worse than where we are with Craig Whyte just now - he has said that massive liability cant be paid. Same as Paul Murray was effectively saying.

One thing. It is very frustrating having all the players play this out in public.

There's actually been new reports since your thread back then that since Whyte took over we have actually received money in for players we sold prior to the takeover and it wasn't small amounts. That's something neither you or I took into account when trying to work that stuff out mate.
