Rangers owner and chairman Craig Whyte will meet with the club’s players and staff on Tuesday morning to discuss the club’s financial situation.

Whyte will explain to the players the reasons behind the decision to announce that the club intended to go into administration and will discuss the implications for staff.

The Ibrox club lodged papers at the Court of Session on Monday notifying their intent to appoint administrators.

Whyte has insisted that administration is not inevitable, though likely, but that the step was a practical and necessary measure to ensure the long-term future of the club.

In a statement on the club’s website, the businessman said that Rangers are “facing massive financial challenges both in terms of its ongoing financial structure and performance and the potential consequences of the HMRC first tier tax tribunal”.

Administration could mean job losses at Ibrox and Whyte is likely to confirm that if an administrator is appointed then it is possible that members of the playing squad may need to leave as part of cost-cutting moves.

... wouldn't it be some kind of grand gesture if we had players who decide to play "for free for the time being" to save the club as such. (Possibly with some silent agreement to get bonuses after administration by someone from outside the club?) While it sounds strange, the relevant people would probably lose less than 100k per head till the summer, but will that make a difference on their bank accounts? Only problem might be the Players Union et al wanting insurances et al paid by the club ...

Even if some players offered 50% cuts is would be a good gesture especially if they are injured and not playing plus earning a whacking 20k / week i.e. Whittaker.

Business in general is fairly corrupt in the main, football has embraced this culture gladly. Players have also eagerly bought into the loads of money culture and there would be very few of them to play for a reduced wage, never mind nothing.
