One problem with the use of games in training is it is difficult to judge if everyone is giving 100% and easy to bring the level down to the lazier players. It is easier for players to hide and difficult to see when fun is taking over from hard work. As I said in an other post if done properly it can make training less of a slog. I know in Holland much of the training goes on positional sense and 2 against 1 and 3 against 2 etc. are played regularly. One and two touch football are also used a lot.

Maybe Ally has invented a game called touch and tackle.:sneaky:

Australian footballers are usually fitter and more technically gifted than your average Scottish player. While people will deride their qualification opponents, Australia still ranks 25odd places above Scotland in the world rankings for a reason. To train a bit of tactical awareness and technical ability aside from turning up against essentially the same people each and every day should bear some fruits.

Bit pointless when only 2 or 3 of our current players in the first team are actually Scottish. Or did that little point pass you by ;)

I'm not sure we should be looking at Aussie football as a role model for our own.

With no disrespect to them, Aussie football is guff. Just because they train differently to us doesn't suddenly make them a lot better!

just where abouts are the aussie national team compared to scotland , and in a competitive game who would you fancy more m i'd take them any day mate

See above ;)

I take your point , however they tend to be from smaller clubs with a few superstars yet are still technically adept and aware , something that we are definetly not good at , and as far as i am concerned thats down to training and tactics

Seems my thoughts were not that far from the truth. I hate to say it but it does show in the play, there is totally no sense of tactical movement by anyone. I will say though that there are plenty games where fitness is acquired while making training enjoyable and not a slog.

When was the last time you saw Rangers try anything other than a shot from a free kick? Contrast with Valencia, switch to the right, cross into six yard box, ball's in the pokey.

I think Jelavic has had his chance as far as I can remember he has only scored once and not got further than the wall on a number of occasions.
