Offensive Behaviour Bill passed today by Parliament

Recommended Posts

OK, let's just wait for a year of this laws enforcement and then we can see the class make-up of the folks convicted of this particular crime. And the reason I know the police pick of the working class is because the prisons are full of said people. They're an easy touch for any policeman and his wee black book in a court, which in turn reflects the inequality that is rife in this country.

Where do you get your facts from because I think you're wrong. The amount of unemployed who are in Addiewell is unbelievable!

So what if working class people are arrested? If they didn't commit the crime and break the law then they wouldn't be lifted. Police don't go looking for working class people to arrest and send to jail. LOL!

Of course there will be working class people in prison but the majority of people who are arrested (where I work anyway) are the unemployed who sponge off the people who do work.

One last thing, police and their wee black books don't send people to jail.

I love how the people out there who break the law are being overlooked because after all, it's easier to blame the police.

If you can't do the time then don't do the crime! ;)

I'm prepared to wait, you on the other hand seem happy to call working class 'spongers'. An offensive term used by sickening right-wing politicians to demonise their targets of folk benefiting from state benefits.

I'm rather worried that someone who may, or may not, I don't know your status, works within the police force of this country, is coming onto a social site using this type of language. More importantly that trying to score points from each other, it does increase my worries that the police are indeed PRE-judging their targets and my original concerns will be found to be correct, that the working class, not only the unemployed, will be the main victims of this useless and hopeless law.

You've even admitted that you don't understand the law, so on what basis are you arresting people, other than your already stated bias against folks on benefits????

You should be ashamed of yourself and the only reason I'm not going to your employers is because there's little chance of anything being done about such a person in the ranks of the police in this country. It seems to be encouraged more than calmed.

I'm calling the unemployed spongers, the ones who are happy not to work but happy to claim benefits. I'm NOT calling the working class spongers and have nothing against us. Go back and read the 3rd paragraph in post number 51.

You know you've lost an arguement when you go off the beaten track and get personal. LOL!

Anyway, aren't you judging the police by thinking that they're going out their way to arrest working class people?

No. I've admitted I don't know this new law brought in yesterday. However, I'll research it like I do everything else when I don't fully understand it. By the way, I don't understand a lot of laws, I'm not perfect. However, it seems you know everything related to your work.

Wind your neck in. You're clutching at straws, TOTALLY blowing this out of proportion as well as making things up now to satisfy your aimless and pointless mumblings.

Take a chill pill bud, it's an internet forum, not PM question time.

You cant make that assumption.

I'm not saying it is the case, but prison could equally be full of working class people if working class people were more likely to commit crimes.

I don't know what arguement I've meant to have lost Gazza? I agree with you that being personal is a weak form of arguement, but I'd have to say, it's usually the person that starts being personal that is the weakest.

As someone with congenital heart disease and on benefits, I take the spongers remarks as a personal attack and I thinik I should be able to defend myself against these 'ideas' created by expense account fraudsters politicains. It is certainly a good way to deflect public opinion away from being the centre of attention, unwelcome attention, and for the most part I'd say it's been rather successful. The global economic crises is now indeed the fault of the unemployed.???

Super_Ally: What I say about the prison population is not an assumtion, it is a recorded fact. You even admit it unwittingly by your next point, but surely the theft within the bluecollar section of society is beyond the ken of most policemen, and even if they do get charged, they have the resorces ti wangle a good lawyer to escapre prison. Even if they do get a prison sentance, they are usually fast tracked into the 'Holiday Camp' section of the prioson population.

I believe in socialist principles, although I'm aware that is not a popular set of values to hold these days and most not agreeing with them tend to attack and belittle anyone espousing these values. I'm extremely worried about this new law as it directly attacks a working class pastime, namely watching football and there will be very little defence for anyone brought to court on these charges.

I don't normally get myself involved with tub-thumping arguements on the internet as folks points are very ratherly addressed by the protaganists, so I've said my bit and however you want to defend the politicians that create these laws, good luck to you. I've said my peace on this matter.

See, you've jumped the gun. I said that people who are happy not to work yet claim benefits are the spongers. People, like yourself, who are out of work through injury or illness and would do anything to work have my sympathy. People who choose not to work because they're lazy and are happy sponging off people who do work are a different kettle of fish altogether.

Your prison facts are wrong.

I'm not defending any politician but you seem keen on blaming them for people being unable to behave themselves and when these people are arrested for breaking the law you then blame the police? What a weird way to look at things. If people behaved themselves then the problem would sort itself out.

This bill is a sad day for all Scottish football fans and will create more problems than it will solve and it does breach your freedom of speech. I liked the comment of Les Gray saying '' if you use your common sense you have nothing to fear '',aye right Les will your police officers use their common sense ?.

If the fans use their common sense then the police won't need to use theirs. Simple.
