Griffiths' Offensive Gesture

Recommended Posts

I don't see why fans make such a big deal about incidents like this one and the Luis Suarez. How often do fans make gestures at players? Fans should grow up and stop moaning. Double standards or what?

Yes, but giving a 'Get it up you' to Rangers fans by that monk Griffiths deserves him to be executed in front of his family.

LEIGH GRIFFITHS is on a collision course with the SFA following an inflammatory gesture towards Rangers fans.

The Hibs striker reacted in front of the travelling support during his side's 2-0 defeat at Easter Road on Saturday.

The incident was highlighted by ESPN during their live coverage and it is understood referee Iain Brines is set to include it in his match report.

St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas was hit with a one-match touchline ban following a similar flashpoint at Ibrox last month.

The precedent has been set as far as the SFA are concerned and their Judicial Panel are now likely to hammer Griffiths.

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon was still waiting to study TV replays last night, but he has vowed to take action if sanctions are imposed on Griffiths.

Fenlon said: "That's the first I have heard of it. I will have to see it first before I can comment on it, I didn't see it during the game.

"If he's done it then you can't condone it and we'll make sure we sort it out."

Just because he's up in front of any panel, doesn't mean he'll be punished, and Lomas' crime was against an official, not fans and certainly not Rangers fans.

It is a bit OTT, but highly paid players just can't do as they please, anytime they decide they want, or need to let off steam.

Whether it's fair or not, these types of things can incense fans and trouble can result directly from these actions, so players should stop responding. It's not a street situation and if it was, would you gesture to anything from 5000-10000 fans, without the protection of the police at the match?

What's the difference between fans and Rangers fans?

Brines is including it in his report which must means he must have seen it I guess. Why did he then not take any action at the time?

That might be because the linesman either didn't see it or didn't report it to the referee; but fans and perhaps police near the corner flag reported it to the Match Commander and he has asked the referee to include it in his report. That is the new protocol.

I thought it was completely out of order; he slipped and fell and got jeered so the easiest thing to do was to laugh and make light of it; there was no need whatsover for him to make an offensive gesture, which could quite easily have led to crowd trouble.

He deserves everything he gets.
