Rangers ace Steven Naismith told to snub Team GB

Recommended Posts

STEVEN NAISMITH was last night warned the Tartan Army will turn against him and call for the end of his Scotland career if he represents Team GB at next summer's Olympics.

The Rangers star, 25, has sparked a furious backlash from fans after revealing his desire to play for Stuart Pearce's UK select side.

Injured hitman Naisy joined QPR striker Jamie Mackie in publicly declaring his hopes of being selected as one of three over-age players.

But he has been warned he is putting his international future and the Scottish national team's on the line with his comments.

Hamish Husband, spokesman for the Association of Tartan Army Supporters Clubs, said: "What you have is a misguided player putting personal vanity ahead of the future of his national team.

"We've campaigned against a GB Team and Naismith would be unwelcome to play for Scotland again in the eyes of most. He's endangering his future with the national team and the national team itself.

"Mackie said the same but he's almost an irrelevance while Naismith has - or should I say had - a bright future with Scotland.

"Naismith is seen as the bright future of the team under Craig Levein but not if he pulls on that GB shirt."

It really doesn't put me up nor down to be honest. If a player wants to play and is selected then go for it I guess.

The only issue I have is players born in Scotland but choosing to play for another international team because of their parent, grandparents.

I can't see too many Scottish players being selected anyway.....

Who voted him as spokeman? :wanker:

Since when did Hamish Husband pick the Scotland team? :wanker:

I'll say it again. :wanker:

Who the fuck is Hamish Husband to tell Naismith what to do ?

Other than Gers fans, the majority of the TA were HAPPY when Naismith got injured because they dont like him or us. Hypocritical basturts.

Im tired of this kind of story. It is Naismiths career, team GB is new, who wouldnt want that opportunity?

I follow Scotland, proudly. & I am a tartan army member but I think this guy is speaking for himself. If they ever turned against a player for wanting to further his career, I'd leave. Turning against, arguably, your best player for a decade is counter productive either way you look at it.

Pillocks like Hamish Husband are always coming out with pish like this on behalf of the tartan army. Guys like this seem to be under the impression that people actually give a fuck what the tartan army think and that their threats carry some weight. Maybe it's something in the highland water or eating too many oatcakes or something.

What opportunity? The same opportunity that Craig Moore received? There is very little honour in representing your country as an overage player in a non-event of a competition in the sport.

Football shouldn't be in the Olympics period and it would be delusional for any player to think he's achieved much by playing in it - less so as an overage player.

If so many in Scotland (and especially Rangers fans) can't get the slightest bit excited about our proper national team in real competitions like the World Cup or European Championship, why the sudden interest in a GB team in a non-Event?

To me the recent home nations tourney is more relevant and that hardly inspired anyone.

If so many are annoyed at our players playing in meaningless friendlies for Scotland, why the hypocrisy over one playing for a GB team in a meaningless competition?

The even more pathetic thing is that he's probably not a real pick - smacks to me of a token Scot to give a GB rather than just English feel about the team.

Hamish Husband sounds like a complete prick with an axe to grind with anyone who wants to play for team GB.

I'm totally with Naismith on this one - good on him for speaking up, speaking his mind, and standing for what he believes in.
