Looking To Kirk On

KIRK BROADFOOT hopes his performances since coming back into the team have been enough to give him a chance of a long-term starting slot.

The big defender has deputised in the absence of left-backs Sasa Papac and Lee Wallace and has done well in that position.

Broadfoot had not played competitively for a month since his recent return against St Johnstone but he has since featured against Kilmarnock and Dunfermline too.

Having also played in the friendly with Hamburg, he has been one of Gers' better players lately and he hopes he has done his chances of a run in the team some good.

The Ayrshireman told Blues News: "Obviously results haven't been great lately but hopefully I've come in and done myself and the team justice.

"I've felt personally that I've performed well enough and I've stayed sharp even when I've not been getting games as there have been reserve matches most weeks.

"You always look at how you have played as an individual and how that has contributed to the team and I feel as if I've done okay.

"We've got a big squad and more or less everyone in defence is just about back now so hopefully I can stay in the team.

"It is going to be difficult to do that. You see guys such as David Weir and he can't get into the team just now so that tells you a lot about how well the boys who are in it are doing.

"You've got to try to look after yourself and I just need to make sure I keep doing enough to give the manager something to think about."

A player who I just don't know about. Is always criticised, even when having had not to bad a game. He must be a bit dellusional though if he really feels he has played well enough to keep out a fit again Papac or Wallace.

No idea if the stories about his relationship with the fans at matches are true or not and is certainly, along with Edu and McCulloch, one of our most criticised players.

He is a bit of an enigma. I thought he played well enough agaisnt the pars on Saturday, but he's just as liable to screw up in any game, which says to me, he's not quite as good as he thinks he is.

While we suffer from injuries though, he's a good filler.

He is a limited footballer and gets a hard time from Rangers fans especialy,I think he is a good steady full back and has proved he is a good full back with performances against the likes of Manure, easy target for some fans.
