GovanAllan 0
It won't be their decision, mate; they would have to bring any incident to the attention of the police and it would be up to the individual policeman to decide if an arrest was justified. Have only seen one incident this season in my section of Ibrox where the police have told the steward they were wrong and told the fan to sit back down. All the rest are hauled away on the say so of the steward.

I completely understand that, but there would be room there for abuse of the new laws if a steward/s claims that X or Y was said. Obviouly that could happen right now, but the new laws would open things up MUCH further to varying interpretation and definitions as well as bringing in much much tougher penalties.
Zappa 0
They would still have to convince the procurator fiscal that there was a case to answer. A guy was just jailed and given a football banning order for saying some nasty stuff on a social networking site and that's because things are building up to this new legislation being introduced.
Gazza_8 233
So you think it's ok that if the new legislation is passed a Celtic supporting steward could have a Rangers fan arrested, sentenced to 5 years in jail and banned from football grounds just because that steward deems what the Rangers fan is singing or chanting as being offensive? Where did you get that thought form? What do you mean vice-versa? The Rangers fan could have the Celtic supporting steward arrested for offensive behaviour at Ibrox? Now, that would be fair! I'm sure there's some Rangers fans who are stewards and cops who would gladly lift a Celtic fan at Parkhead for singing/saying something sectarian, just like there'll be some Celtic fans who are stewards and cops who would gladly lift a Rangers fan for singing sectarian songs.
