Kyle lafferty is better than peter crouch, says gerry armstrong

Recommended Posts

KYLE LAFFERTY has always struggled to cope with a £4 million price tag at Rangers.

But last night the Northern Irishman was tipped to have a stunning season and become more of a menace to rivals than the man heâ??s often compared to - £49 million Peter Crouch.

Because of his ungainly running style and lanky frame, Lafferty has often cut an awkward figure in the Ibrox attack not dissimilar to England hitman Crouch.

But his former coach at international level â?? former top marksman Gerry Armstrong â?? believes that the 24-year-old is about to approach the best years of his career.

And not only will he shine at Ibrox if he can steer clear of injury â?? but he can make a mockery of the fee Rangers paid to secure his services from Burnley and which has been such a millstone around the hitmanâ??s neck since 2008.

Armstrong admitted: â??Kyle is now starting to find consistency in his play and his goal ratio per games is really coming on a bundle. He has everything youâ??d want in a striker â?? he can run the channels, he can hold the ball up and he has very quick feet.

â??Crouch is talented, but heâ??s nowhere near as good at holding the ball up as Kyle and doesnâ??t have as quick feet. Iâ??ve told Kyle that from my conversations recently with Ally McCoist that his manager really rates him.

â??Now is his time keep knuckling down and prove his managerâ??s faith is not misplaced. I think he has everything in his locker to prove himself a top, top player for Rangers.

â??The big issue for Kyle has always been fitness. Iâ??d love to see him get a six-month run where heâ??s fully fit. He seems to play for two months and tweak a groin or pull a muscle and be out for three weeks.

â??Then we he comes back it takes him time to get back up to speed again. In all his time at Rangers I honestly donâ??t think heâ??s ever been 100% fit. Heâ??s always just working back from injury or approaching full sharpness when he picks up another knock.

â??But I honestly believe that the money Rangers paid for him should not be an issue.Yes it maybe hampered him in the best but heâ??s certainly a £4 million player â?? and then some.â?

Armstrong worked with Lafferty from the minute he broke into the Northern Ireland set-up as a raw teenager and believes he can emerge as key man for club and country this season adding: â?? Kyle played recently against Serbia â?? a top side â?? and was outstanding. He led the line superbly in the first-half and we were 1-0 up through Gareth McAulay.

â??He seems to have settled down a bit as well and become more focused on his football.Donâ??t get me wrong â?? at times he can be a complete fruit loop!

I'd agree that Lafferty is a better player than Crouch.

Have never been a huge fan of Crouch but his international record is impressive.

I am hoping Lafferty kicks on from recent goalscoring form he has been in and starts turning it on for us consistently over a sustained period of time.

What a ridiculous comparison. Because they're both tall??

Lafferty is one of the worst headers you'll ever see, while Crouch has made his career from it.

Stupid comparison, totally invalid.

Exactly what I was thinnking when I read this this morning.
