Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic declared a doubt for Hearts clash

Recommended Posts

NIKICA JELAVIC is a doubt for Sunday's SPL tie between Rangers and Hearts after picking up a bug.

The Croatian played 45 minutes against Rangers midweek, but missed training today ahead of the Tynecastle clash with an illness.

He has scored seven in 17 games this season, and the 26-year-old would be a major loss to the current SPL leaders.

The news is a blow to manager Ally McCoist, who will also be without injured duo Kyle Bartley and Jamie Ness for the trip to Edinburgh.

But McCoist was handed a boost after Sasa Papac returned to training.

ALLY McCOIST remains hopeful that Nikica Jelavic will fight off a big in time to face Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.

Sasa PapacThe Croatian reported for training this morning having picked up a bug and after being assessed by the club's medical team he was sent home without training.

McCoist says the striker's progress will be monitored tonight and tomorrow and he is hopeful that the forward will shake off the problem in time to face the Jambos.

He said: "He looked really poorly this morning when I saw him and it looks like he's got a bit of a bug. The doctor sent him home and we'll monitor him tonight and tomorrow.

"Obviously it would cast a doubt over him this Sunday but at the same time he is a big, strong lad there's a good chance he could shake the bug off."

However McCoist is more reassured by Sasa Papac's recovery from a sinus problem that saw him miss out on meetings with both St Mirren and Liverpool.

The Bosnian will face a battle to return to the side after decent displays from Lee Wallace but McCoist says Papac will be part of his squad on Sunday.

He added: " He looked well although you can never tell with Sasa! But seriously, he trained this morning, looked fine and came through it ok so he will certainly be travelling with us tomorrow.

"Everyone else is looking fine apart from Kyle Bartley and Jamie Ness who have missed out recently."

Jelly OUT!....Dont like slagging off Rangers players, but that guy hasn't produced for us this season.. okay he scored our last goal, but it seems 1 goal a game is his just about it - score once and he's done his job, dont need to score again.

Get Healy in, if given the chance he'll score for fun.

Disagree even although Jelly isn't scoring he is a fantastic team player. Healy doesn't score and is not a team player.

A season lasts until May and Jelavic is the key man, it was probably him that blasted us to the title last year when he came back, winner at Hamilton spring to mind.

What gets to me is when players are not on form they are written off straight away....yet the likes of Naismith is being bummed up right now. Naismith took 4 years to get going and even last season he was hot for 2 months then faded a bit while Jelavic proved his quality throughout.

Lets get off Jelavics back at the moment, he is the best striker in the SPL by a country mile hot or cold.

The Healy fascination of some Rangers fans is bizarre. His career suggests he would offer no where near as much as Jelavic.

He's scored 35 goals in 91 appearances for Norn Iron. Jelavic has scored 2 in 15 for Croatia.

Jelavic is of course the better player, on form, but I don't think it's fair to dismiss Healy's career in comparison.

What is Healy's club career record ? Last I checked we werent an international team.....

Anyone can use statistics to prove a point - and I am sure Healy's club record isnt anywhere near as good as Jelavic's.

Stats are no use for the current. I think Healy would do well if got a run in the team. He would probably have a Miller type record when he would score goals but not every game.

Must admit, id like to see a bit more of the ulsterman.
