pete 2,499
Oct 6 2011 Hugh Keevins CHRIS SUTTON last night told Rangers they're a disaster waiting to happen. The Celtic great branded Ally McCoist's men fragile and insisted they only need to lose a couple of players to injury and their title hopes could disintegrate before his eyes. The Ibrox side sit on top of the SPL with a 10-point lead over the Hoops but Sutton believes that gap is nothing and insists Neil Lennon still has a stronger squad that will propel them back into the championship race. Sutton said: "Rangers are still fragile in my opinion. They'd be tested if they lost a couple of players to injury. "This isn't the strongest Ibrox team of all time by any means and I still think Celtic have a stronger squad. "I give them full credit for winning three titles in a row but the defeat by Maribor in the Europa League told me all about Rangers' frailties. "The Slovenians were a poor side on the evidence of what we saw in the first leg but they were still able to go to Ibrox and win their way through to the group stage on aggregate. "I like Nikica Jelavic and Steven Naismith but Rangers aren't overly strong. They're not great to watch and the 4-2 win over Celtic came after playing well for one half of one game. "The loss to Hearts would have been more disappointing for Neil in terms of the way his team performed." Sutton then turned his fire on Kris Commons. He believes the former Derby County man owes his manager a championship favour after letting him and his team-mates down by getting sent off against Hearts. Sutton, launching his biography Paradise and Beyond, reckons Commons sent Lennon to hell and back with his crude challenge on Adrian Mrowiec at Tynecastle. The ex-England hitman, who was in the crowd, said: "It was a straight red. Kris knew what he was doing and it was poor judgment. "He certainly didn't help Celtic because the game was dead after that and they were flat and bereft of ideas." The game was the first Commons had played since he was left out of the opening Old Firm derby of the season after Lennon said he was unfit. The player then went on to his social network site and contradicted his manager's opinion. Now he will sit out Celtic's next game, away to Kilmarnock, due to a ban that won't be the subject of any argument or appeal. It's another blow to his manager on top of the loss of so many key players through injury. But Sutton refuses to declare the title race a foregone conclusion or join in any witch-hunt over the manager's job. And the reason for that is because he believes Celtic still have a better squad of players than their rivals. Ironically, it was Commons who said Lennon's side were younger, fitter and stronger than Rangers last season, only to have the words rammed down his throat when Celtic collapsed with the title finishing line in sight. Now Sutton's chimed in with a put-down sure to enrage the Ibrox support. But Sutton also doesn't cut the Celtic players any slack for the way they've contrived to lose three of their first nine league matches. And the way their lack of mental strength has cost them ground in the championship. The former striker once achieved notoriety by saying Dunfermline had lain down to Rangers on the final day of the season in 2003, losing six goals at Ibrox and costing Celtic the title. Now he's accused the current squad of not giving enough for their boss or the club. He said: "Neil's doing his job by firing up the players but they need to drag more out of each other. Just now Rangers have a mental resolve that's better than Celtic can match. "I came from a team full of guys who weren't afraid to say things in the dressing room. Sunday's team were not adaptable enough in their own minds when things were going wrong." Disaster The fans aren't slow to have their say on the team or to heap pressure on the boss but Sutton added: "We're all good managers after the event, aren't we? Neil won't tell lies about what's going on. He's been at Celtic long enough to know that two bad results equates to a disaster. "Everyone has an opinion in the Glasgow goldfish bowl and I sometimes feel sorry for Neil. "But managers carry the can in the Old Firm world, no matter how many players you've got missing. "Neil's his own man and he'll know it's the nature of the job that people talk about change at the top when things aren't going well. But it's far too early for talk about him moving on. On the other hand, it's never too early for his players to show they're capable of moving the club forward. "Neil stood up to be counted as a player at Celtic but we also knew we could count on the genius of Henrik Larsson to pull us through when things got tough. "Neil's got to play with the hand he's been dealt and there are buttons that really need to be pushed." Does the dick not know that Rangers so far this season have been without Wier, Papac, Whittaker, McCulloch, Ness, Bartley, Goian Naismith, Lafferty and Jelavic at some point this season. Lets see how the tims do without Brown.
craig 5,199
Brown is shite anyway. He is a bigger loss to us than them Let him have his rant, let him try to fire them up. Does he not forget that Celtic got pumped out of Europe by Sion, also a European minnow ? He will look kind of silly when we win the title comfortably. Sutton is a twat.
