So, I'm vaguely remembering a few years back that Paddy Powers payed out in December on bets for Celtic to win the league. How many points were they ahead by this point? & would I be right in saying that we actually won it that year?

They paid out early for a Celtic SPL win in the 02/03 season when we ended up winning on goal difference and they paid out early in the 06/07 season when PLG had us 13 points behind them by the start of November.

Done it with the EPL a few times before too on relegations etc. The money cost is probably made up with the advertising it gets them so worth them doing it.

Aye, the promotion and advertising it gives them is the main thing. They won't lose money, that's for sure.

What happens at the end of the season then if the said team loses, do they then pay out to people who had the other team on to win/be relegated? I'm sure a few bears would have binned their coupons after they paid out on Celtic winning.

Yes, they would end up paying out on both teams.

They pay out on the team winning easily in December.... that team (Celtic) then end up losing the league. They cant get that money back. And those who backed Rangers still have a valid bet so they too would get paid out.

As an FYI, Paddy Power have some pretty cool marketing type ploys. They will pay out the HIGHER of the odds taken at time of bet and SP, even if you dont request SP - means if you get a winner you could get more than you anticipated. Pretty decent idea which is advantageous to the punter.
