The Rangers midfielder picks up awards from both Football Federation Australia and the Australian PFA.

Rangers midfielder Matt McKay has been named as Australian Footballer of the Year.

The former Brisbane Roar player, who moved to Scotland in August, was recognised by Football Federation Australia with its main award.

McKay was also named as the Australian PFA's Player of the Year, beating both Brett Holman and Tim Cahill by over 130 votes.

Craig Moore, formerly of Rangers and a team-mate of McKay with the Roar, presented the player with his PFA award.

McKay is currently back in his homeland ahead of a friendly with Malaysia on October 7 and a 2014 World Cup qualifier with Oman four days later.

The 28-year-old didnâ??t arrive in Scotland until early September, having remained in Australia to take part in other 2014 World Cup qualifying matches.

Three days after his arrival, McKay made his sole appearance to date, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 win at Dundee United.

I'm still confused to what position this guy actually plays. Is he a central midfielder or is he a left sided player?

He can play both central and left midfield positions and also left back. So he'll probably play on the right for us :)

I'm quite looking forward to see him getting a start and a few games under his belt. Glad he is valued in Oz though, always good to hear our players being praised.

Not if he's injured playing friendlies for Ozland.

RANGERS new boy Matt McKay admits he is frustrated at the low-key start to his Ibrox career.

Former Brisbane Roar midfielder McKay has featured just once for Ally McCoist's men since he completed a move to Scotland in August.

And he accepts he's disappointed at the way his new career has started in Glasgow.

McKay said: "I've played a few reserve games but it's not the same as playing first-team football.

"It's a massive club and I want to start playing.

"I played in the first game as soon as I got there but haven't been involved the last couple weeks.

"I'm a bit disappointed but I've got to get my head down.

"We've got a massive squad at Ibrox and the boys are winning games so I'll just have to keep working hard. When my chance comes I'll need to make sure I'm ready to take it and hopefully keep myself in the team."

McKay - who was recently crowned Australian Player of the Year - is now back home on international duty.

And the 28-year-old yesterday showed his ability by helping his country to a 5-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Malaysia in Canberra.

And McKay will take his place in midfield again when the Socceroos, who are now ranked 19th in the world, take on Oman in Sydney on Tuesday.
