Whyte's statement to the shareholders

Recommended Posts

He used the term "investment" which suggests that it does not apply to wages.

As for the tax case, it depends on what sums they are looking at. If it's £20m+ then he's not keeping the cash for that as it's not getting paid. Administration and a pre-pack looms and the tax man would possibly get very little.

Do think he would fold the club if the tax bill is that much, great point there, he never seems bothered when asked about it if his plan is as you say then why should he be bothered, just start all over again.

I get the impression that folk are expecting too much!!! Whyte is no Abramovic or wealth Arab Sheik looking for a play thing. He is an astute business man, who specialises in turning struggling companies into successful ones.

Ideally, he will want to turn Rangers into a profitable club, who can fund their transfers etc internally, rather than relying on a "Suger Daddy" to supply £££££'s.

He is being careful with whatever funds are available, and not paying over the odds for players. So far I think the players that have been brought in will do a good job.

IMHO, the poor Euro showing is not down to the quality of players, but more to do with how we actually play the game - our method of football is light-years behind the rest of Europe. One of the Maribor players highlighted this after the Ibrox game. He stated that they new Rangers were on the ropes when they started playing high balls forward.....Maribor new exactly how we would play - thats why we got beat!!!

He has created the fans' expectations with the document to the shareholders and the various media stories that his people leaked. He can't now complain that fans are disgruntled when he doesn't spend £5m net on new players.

Yes, I believe that he would put the club into administration and the whole takeover was structured with that in mind.

Did he actually state that £5m would be spent on new players....my recollection was that £5m would be available per season for 5 years.....no clear indication if that included wages or contract renewals!!!

How much money has actually gone out the door this season on new players??? Maybe 3.5/4m....not too far off. So you could argue that he has fulfilled his promise - from a certain point of view!!!

There is also another transfer window this season!!!!

Regardless of how much has actually been spent, or whether Whyte has put his hand in his pocket.....things ARE happening!!!

The previous administration had neglected Ibrox...that is either being sorted, or has been sorted. How it is being funded is irrelevant....its getting done

The playing squad needed bulked up....6 (i think) new players brought in in THIS transfer window - when was the last time that happened???

Several KEY key players have been re-signed on LONG-TERM contracts....

How much of the above would have happened if Whyte hadn't taken over the club??? Miller was allowed to go coz the previous administration couldn't put a decent contract on the table.....Papac & Weir would have been off, and probably McGregor/Davis. Possibly a number of the younger ones as well.

Whyte may not have splashed out on several 2/3mill players, but he is building a stable platform for the Club to build on & hopefully increasing revenue streams to generate more income, which can then be put towards transfer budgets in the future - which should hopefully make the club more self funding!!!

Yet, regardless of the above....folk still criticise him!!!

Being realistic, I think Whyte would have been reckless/irresponsible if he was basing the spending on making the CL/EL etc. I think he would view that as a bonus, possibly for the next transfer window. It makes poor business sense to spend money that you don't have.

If you are happy with the start of the new Whyte/ Ally Era fair doo's to you. Getting knocked out of Europe will cost the club lost revenue we can argue who's to blame Whyte not backing Ally with quality players which was required or Ally failing with the squad he had.

We needed to Replace Bougherra we go for a quality CB and lose out offering in region 3m we then sign Bocanegra for 400k big difference. We had bids in for Goodwillie, Cuellar, Verhoek inc Juhasz over 8m where has that money gone? It is evident the team needs quality not quantity Goian looks like a good signing as was Wallace, we spunked 500k on Ortiz so far looks no better than what we have, 400k on Bedoya, 350k on McKay still to see what these 2 players will offer. You have to question why we not offloading the deadwood and get the wages down there are players at the club who shouldn't be there giving Healy, Weir, Kerkar, Little, new contracts is bad Management, we have got players like McCulloch, Edu, Broadfoot, Beattie, draing the club should be offloaded, but hey Ally seems to be happy with the squad.

We need a striker to partner Jelavic its plain to see and someone to bury the chances that has cost us so far this season, we yet again enquire about a player and look like we cant go to a 1m for him according to sources, if that the case Whyte has to be questioned as to where has the money gone.

The Qatar club are absolutely loaded and are highly likely to have paid the full amount for Bougherra immediately, so any rational thinking on transfer funds available to the manager should be deducting that £1.7m from what's been spent.

What was said was as follows:

The Rangers FC Group has undertaken to provide £5,000,000 for investment in the playing squad;

As I said earlier, I don't take this to include wages, given the word "investment".

As for the rest of your post, I'd agree with it as it's similar to the points I made in post 13, but my view on a detailed reading of the circular and the average bear's view would probably be different and I still stand by the point that Whyte has only himself to blame if the expectations that he created are not met, even if he can say that he fulfulled his legal obligations.

Any financial whizzkids on here who know what would happen if that was the case.

One possible scenario is that the club are put into administration, appoint a friendly administrator, use any available cash to pay off the preferred creditor (Whyte), sell the club back to Whyte on a pre-pack administration basis, we get hit with a points deduction and finish second in the league and carry on as before.
