More money in the bank from Danny Wilson sale?

Recommended Posts

As you might remember, when we sold young Danny Wilson to Liverpool it was for £2m potentially going up to £5m based on appearances. Well on top of his 2 EPL, 5 Europa League and 1 Carling Cup appearances last season, he played the full 90 mins in Liverpool's Carling Cup win last night.

I'm not certain of the precise amount/s we get per appearance or exactly how it works, but it looks as though the money might be continuing to roll in for young Danny!! icon14.png

This kind of highlights the disparity between England and Scotland.

We sold a young player with Champions Legaue experience, plenty of 1st team games under his belt and on the verge of an international call-up for 2 million (possibly 5 mill, but not definite)....

Meanwhile Arsenal pay 17 mill for Oxlade-Chamberlain....

Yes, I know they play different positions but that is a MASSIVE difference, probably partly due to positions but still, we let ourselves get raped at times with transfers - hopefully that will change with the new regime.

Yikes! Was it as much as that? That's a lot of money if it was that much when you look at some of the amazing players who've been getting bought for around or just over the £20m mark.

Anyway, while you're right about the general (and arguably completely unfair) disparity, I've got to say that I thought we did quite well out of Wilson. When was the last time we sold an 18 year old central defender for £2m plus a potential £3m in add-ons??

Dont disagree with you Zappa... except "potential" is all that extra 3 mill is. This deal could just as easily turn out to be a "2 million transfer". I doubt we would consider we had done well out of it if that happens to end up being the case...

League 1 player last season as well... baffling. Also baffling Wenger spends that on a teenager but doesn't spend it on experienced players, I know Chamberlain is talented but that fee is quite extortionate.

Mata £23m, Lukaku £20m, Aguero £38m ..... :(

Anyway the money in England is just sickening. The only reason we got a measly amount for Wilson is his contract situation and our own financial situation I think we got a reasonable figure, if he was around now it would be £5m at least upfront no add ons to make it up to £5m. If he was at an English club he would be at least £10m and he was near about the first team.

I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that we get £250k per appearance on top of the £2m transfer fee, but have no idea if that's correct or not. If it is, then you're looking at something like 12 X £250k = £3m in add-ons. It could easily be set up that we get different amounts for EPL, European and Cup games though....
