UEFA Rejects Maribor Protest

Recommended Posts

The Beeb had a strange one around midday. "Won't be decided until after tomorrow's match. "

They've now got the proper story. Bizarre or what?

Someone mentioned that to me. Sounds like someone at the beeb was either taking the mickey or had gotten the wrong end of the stick with the info they'd been given.

I'm actually surprised they threw this out. Given they felt like trawling through the archives for a yellow card Whittaker received while on Scotland duty to back up their case for banning him for club, nothing would surprise me.

The way I read the decision, they didn't throw it out because it was wrong to play him, it was thrown out because the complaint wasn't made within 24hrs of the match. I don't see that that fact will change if they appeal as it was still a late appleication. The ability to appeal is merely a formality afforded to teams.

Chick Young maths. 2+2 = 1357.

I do not look forward to suffering him and his delusions of intelligence for another season

I would assume that if Maribor is not beaten by 4 clear goals, they will think about appealing. For the worst thing would be that UEFA reverse to first leg score to a 3-0 in Maribor's favour. Of course, UEFA would stretch their own rules doing this, as the requirements do not exactly state anything about visas et al.

I think they will too, and it shows their lack of sporting integrity. They seem to be the Celtic of Slovenia - if you can't win on the pitch, put pressure on the governing body.

In 91/92, when we were playing Marseilles, someone pointed out to the TV people that the French goalkeeper was wearing short sleeves - which is against the rules due to the chance of the ball hitting an arm in the melee of the box. With the GK's different coloured shirt sleeve the officials could see if it was him. When everyone has bare arms it's less easy.

The TV crew loved this and told the Rangers bench - but Rangers had no desire to make a complaint. We were never that petty and hold a much higher integrity level.
