Any Lafferty haters on here?

Recommended Posts

No I'm not, ok I've not been on here for long but I can assure you I've consistently defended the guy for most of the last three years during which he's made a significant contribution to each of the titles won in that time, not just the last day goals either incidentally. I reckon he's already "made it", he's now our first choice centre forward along with Jelavic and at times towards the end of last year it was Jelavic supporting Lafferty rather than the other way round.

I actually think he's suffered from Ardvelaze syndrome, i.e. cause he's a decent football player and we've desperately needed somebody to play wide left he's been stuck out there to do his best. Because he's struggled there his confidence has suffered leading to the fans getting on his back. When he got his rare chances up front he's been so eager to please he's been trying too hard with the result that nothing would come off for him. All he needed was a run up front and a few goals to go in. Hopefully he'll kick on from here and go from strength to strength.

I think you miss my point gingerger.

Pete said he didnt think Lafferty would make it at Ibrox, but that was said when Lafferty had a poor first season with us - and it WAS poor.

You are now saying he has made it, which is fair enough.

However, your argument is over a different time period from that which Pete was talking about. Anyone making an assessment of Lafferty after his first season would be more than justified in saying he wouldnt make it at Ibrox. Anyone saying it now after 3 seasons would be harder pushed to justify that stance.

That was my point. Hope that clarifies.

I think it's been obvious throughout Lafferty's Rangers career that he does have the raw talent/potential to be a decent player but for a variety of reasons (injury, playing out of position, poor attitude and unreasonable fan expectation due to his fee) he's not delivered consistently enough to make him popular.

It's an exaggeration for anyone to suggest they've been his only supporter since he signed as I feel most people have acknowledged the fact he looks a fairly exciting prospect when fully fit and playing up front. The problem for Lafferty is that his good form just has not been regular enough. As with most bears, I hope the end of last season and his start to this is the beginning of him maturing into the fine, mobile striker he should be.

If you can show examples of my fickle attitude towards this issue, I will be amazed, surprised, and will accept your point.

I'm not going to trawl back through years of posts on Gersnet, but it was a pretty funny introduction to Gersnet where your views changed like the weather in this country.

I have to say that I remember Danny supporting Lafferty. He'll probably agree that he began losing his confidence in him but Lafferty was super shit for a few weeks. I can't remember anyone else on here giving their constant backing to Lafferty.

I think you should put that chip that's on your shoulder in the bin.

An extremely weak reply.

Lets ALL try to get back on topic here, rather than continue with the petty personal squabbles.

If Lafferty continues his current run of form (including the run-in last season) for the season then he will be the perfect foil for Jelavic and will actually go some way to justifying the price we paid for him.

His finish on the weekend was fantastic from a relatively tight angle.

Long may it continue.
