How much have we actually spent?

Recommended Posts

But if we have added seven new players, a number of them full internationalists, who will be challenging for a first team place, while not spending a lot of money, I think that's a good thing to be honest. Even if Whyte was absolutely minted with spare money to throw at players its a very short-term view to take, particularly when the rewards are relatively low in the SPL.

Value for money is what we need to be looking for these days.... so with that said :

Wallace = £1.5M - from what I have seen thus far (midweek abhorrations aside...) definitely value for money - could sell him for double come end of season IMO.

Goian = £800k - absolute steal from what I have seen

Ortiz = £500k - 500k is not a lot of money but, as yet, not seen value for it. Decent player but not a winger. Still needs time before we decide.

McKay = 400k - who knows ? Comes highly recommended by those who know RFC AND the SPL well though.

Bedoya = £400k - same as McKay

Bartley = loan - we know what we get with the big lad, definite value for money, even if just a loan.

Bocanegra = £500k - Same as McKay - but a seasoned veteran, should be worth the 500k.

I still dont think we are finished and, if I am honest, I think the above will be good enough for the SPL when added to what we already have. Lets not forget we tied Davis, McGregor & Whittaker up on long term deals as well so we can plan for the future with our better players in the squad.

McCoist has been there a while and it will take a while too for him to find what formation he wants to play, what tactics (yes, he should know this already as he has been Asst Man for years but he also inherited WS's players. He may see things differently and it will take time for him to get those in he truly wants as well as getting rid of deadwood). He needs time and we need more than one transfer window to be honest.

We have retained the guts of a championship winning team at the same time as strengthening, at the very least, squad numbers. And time will tell as to whether those signings will enhance not just the squad but also the team. One thing though is that given what we have spent on these players and given what we have seen from those that have already played is that we have signed players who provide little downside risk financially but with lots of upside potential both financially (if we sell some of these guys on) and/or from performances.

Only Ortiz looks like he isnt value for money so far - but he brings such versatility that he can play a multitude of positions : LB, LM, RB and RM. Yes, some could contend that he doesnt look good enough but given he acts, at the very least, as cover for FOUR positions makes him a valuable squad member.
