How much have we actually spent?

Recommended Posts

We got a new owner, out of debt, and after all the previous financial restrictions it seemed there would now at last be some money to spend on critically needed new players.

Not just average players, but players to improve the squad and strengthen the side in key areas.

Am I the only one on here who is a little bit underwhelmed by the amount we've spent and the players we've brought in with it?

Wallace = £1.5M (our big money summer signing thus far)

Goian = £800k

Ortiz = £500k

McKay = 400k

Bedoya = £400k

Bartley = loan

Bocanegra = £500k

Total = about £4M give or take.

We seem to be in an average market, bringing in inexpensive players to increase the size of the squad, but very few players who actually obviously improve it. Goian looks good, Bartley is one who we know what he can do, and Wallace has impressed.

But I'm just a bit disappointed that we appear to have had such astonishingly limited funds despite new ownership. I was hoping for maybe 3 or 4 squad players, and 3 or 4 (£2M+) really good players to genuinely enhance our quality.

We sold Bougherra for what was it? £1.7m? We should also be getting a decent wedge in from Blackpool's sale of Adam, so probably about £2.5m coming in, which means we've really only spent about £1.5m.

Personally, I'm quite pleased with the players we've brought in, but I'd like to see us try to buy Weiss and a new striker who's a proven goalscorer. I'd be delighted with Weiss and that lad le Fondre.

Do we really have any money?

My gut tells me that going out of the CL has left us with much less money to spend than we might have had. It's just common sense. There's absolutely no way that Ally will have anything like £10m NET to spend without that guaranteed CL group stage cash. There's over 11 days left in the transfer window, so we can only wait and see what happens. I think Weiss and a striker would cost us about 5 million, maybe a touch more, but I can only see Ally being allowed to spend that much if we make it into the EL group stages on Thursday night, at which point there's only 6 days left of the transfer window. All in all I think we're more likely to see a couple of good loan signings coming in than any serious money getting spent, so my talking about Weiss is probably a waste of time.

We all know your manlove for Vlad Zappa ;)

He's not coming. Ever. He'll end up in some mid table Spanish team or such like.

Outstanding talent (IMO) and if we had enough money to buy him off City he wouldn't hesitate to come back up here. I picked him out as a cracking player at the World Cup in SA before we even signed him. Slovakia had him switching wings and he looked like a real threat on both wings with excellent ball skill and pace, so just what we need. It's all about money though and City aren't going to sell him for peanuts.

They'd sell for £8M. Eastern Bloc players are a fucking fortune these days, even the lesser ones.

Not if this is true

Manchester City have agreed a £3million deal to sell Slovakian winger Vladimir Weiss to *Dynamo Kiev.

Weiss, 21, has been told by *Roberto *Mancini that his chances will be *limited this *season, *despite *playing a *prominent role during City’s pre-season tour of the *United States and Canada. The winger spent last season on loan with Rangers after a spell at Bolton the previous year.

Weiss – whose father Vladimir is Slovakia’s coach – was part of the City team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2008, but has found his first-team *opportunities *limited.

If I had the prospect of a Tax Bill looming, prudence would be the watch word. I don't think Whyte has the funds to finance a large transfer budget, most of the money we spend will have to be financed by Rangers, in one way or another.

I like the thought of paying £3/£4/£5m for players, but after the last regime and the state we have found ourselves in, I am quite happy with the way we are going in the transfer market. I would like to say I am happy with those we have brought in, but have to admit they are mostly a mystery to me.

I am more concerned with the personnel on the management and Boardroom side, I just wish Whytes first signing had been someone who would have brought more professionalism to the workings within the Club.

These last thoughts are only my feelings, I have no direct evidence.
